
Tried to hike here today, but Browns Gap Turnpike was significantly washed out. I've seen a lot of washed out gravel roads, but this was the worst I had seen. There was a small handmade sign warning and suggesting low clearance cars turn around. We went a bit down the road thinking it was only a short length that was washed out, but it kept going for a while. Even though ours wasn't low, we didn't want to risk getting stuck or ruining the car so we backed out (nowhere to turn around really) and never made it to the trail. Pretty disappointed. The day was ideal in the low 80s w a light breeze and sunshine peeking thru the forest canopy. I decided to hike the AT to the downhill Doyles River Trail, back up the Jones Run Trail and circle back on the AT. I enjoyed everything about this hike. Trail isn't well marked at first so we weren't sure we were on the right path so we had to keep asking people we passed on the way. Dogs are allowed.
