Not too shabby, decent floors, terrible pizza and poorly maintained equipment, bad music choices.
Floors are usually in good condition and staff is usually pretty friendly, more than willing to help skaters out and offer friendly pointers. Place usually has a family friendly atmosphere. Usually a nice more chill skating rink run by adults.
Staff could be a bit more attentive when it comes to enforcing certain rules ( especially kids crawling on the ground, or leaving strollers on the floor) but things usually aren't too bad. Rink is also a fairly decent size compared to others in South jersey. Saturdays usually feature races that all ages and skill levels can participate in and is a great way to test your mettle against skaters of different skills. Saturday is usually the most crowded and filled with kids. Wednesdays is adult night, full of friendly regulars. Place is usually not crowded at all and allows for people to practice in relative comfort. They usually play disco and some old R&B but are willing to take requests.
Rental equipment could use some refurbishing, inline skates particularly could use some TLC as very few have working straps and buckles that lock tight. Just about all skates could use some new laces (please buy new laces!) or wheels or some bearings or rotations.
Music selection is... Well not the best and varies wildly depending on the night. Dj is usually willing to take requests as well which is nice. DJs could use a bit more training tho as they have a habit of messing up songs or leaving long gaps in the middle. They have a great lighting system but almost never use it sadly.
Skating Rink takes credit cards for entry and at concession stands which is very convenient. Pizza at the concessions stand is... Well not the best. It's okay if you're starving but leaves alot to be desired (please buy crushed red pepper flakes!) Arcade machines could use some TLC as most are in poor condition.
All and all youngs is a pretty good skating rink and is about on par with alot of the other rinks in the area. Price is fair, atmosphere is decent and the floor is in good quality which is ultimately what...
Read moreBeware of booking a birthday party here. It is a complete money grab - We booked the private party rental for $500, including 24 skaters who get pizza and unlimited soda. For the private venue I thought this was a fair price. However, for a party of 7-8 year olds, they charge spectators $15 (aka parents) to watch their kids skate and enjoy the party. Now, I signed the contract and understand their conditions, so arguing the price at this point didn't matter - I wanted to understand the logistics and their reasoning. I was told they charge this amount because previously...people were taking advantage of skate rentals and food provided - how? When you rent skate (just like a bowling alley) you get charged when you provide them your shoes. Second, if my party includes 24 people who each get 2 slices of pizza equalling 48 slices total - what difference does it make who eats them? I would just order more pizza at my own expense. Theres a very simple way to solve this - provide 24 wrist bands - I would give those wrist bands out letting the skating staff know that these children are covered. Those without wristbands can pay for whatever they'd like at their own expense. Honestly, $15 for skaters and non skaters is an insane price to expect people to pay.
I spoke to the manager, who did nothing but run me in circles and make up ridiculous excuses for this. I explained, I was not here to argue the price and realize she is not the one who makes the price up, but it puts a sour taste in the mouth of people who are booking parties at small businesses in order to support our local economy. Every person I have spoken to about this is floored at the price, especially given that no parent is going to drop their 7-8 year old off without their supervision. And I believe Young's is aware of that and takes advantage of that. Next time, I will book at Kingpin Bowling, where kids can bowl and parents can enjoy watching or pay to play themselves. Or at Dave and Busters....
Read moreI've read almost all the 1 star reviews on this place that were a couple years old, and I found out myself that most of those reviews were so inaccurate. I went here almost a week ago during an afternoon session with my 2 children. One of the older reviews complained about how the music was terrible.. let me tell you I heard nothing but wonderful music when I went, it was all new music, stuff I hear on the radio all the time, and the DJ even does awesome events for the kids during the session which is really neat! The DJ is something of himself too! He's got this radio like voice and makes the races... very interesting... he's talking a mile a minute and he's obviously been doing it for a very long time because he was outstanding, explained things very clearly for not only my kids but everyone else's. I like how this rink has stayed in the 80's but kept with cleanliness, the tables, counters and carpet were very clean, expect for just a few ruts, but it's to be expected.. people are skating on it, spilling sodas and food and what not. The floor guards also don't just skate around like most of those older reviews claim, there were 2 floor guards when I went on Martin Luther King day, and they were constantly helping kids and adults, showing them which way to go and taking kids on and off the floor, and did I mention the level of skill both of them have? I wish I could skate like them and stop on a dime! I've been to this rink since I was a little kid myself, and now I am bringing my kids, and some of those reviews about how rude the staff are, are just wrong or incorrect and people are on here venting away without explaining the full story. I know the owners and use to skate here when Mr. Young owned the place. The people in the office are overly friendly and are not rude. I enjoy taking my kids here once a month and will definitely...
