There is a well and good reason this place has such high reviews and unfortunately I had to find it out in one of the most upsetting ways possible.
My cat was 16 years old and had been dealing with aggressive diabetes for a couple years before his passing and went in and out of remission. He was being seen by an entirely different veterinary hospital with an entirely different agenda. His deterioration was noted but no plans of progress were made even when serious symptoms developed. He was visibly dehydrated for long periods of time and was building in lethargy and pained movement. It wasn't to the extreme until his low blood drop and lack of eating/drinking presented itself. Even so it was something that he has bounced back from with fluids in the past and we were hopeful with the under skin injection from our previous vet would have some effect on him. There was no positive effect, his body didn't absorb it properly and in a mess of emotions we were looking for somewhere to see us to tell us it was going to be okay and that he could bounce back from it. The prior office had been so light about his health, the weight hadn't hit.
I am so sorry to Health & Wellness Animal Hospital staff that you were the ones that had to carry that weight with us. In a panic I made a call in and illustrated how frantic I was and they were able to fit my cat in to an already stuffed day. I had not been aware he was ever seen at Health & Wellness but reviewing papers, he had been a patient when he was just a kitten, for introductory care. At our appointment we saw Dr. Mattera who was kind and allowed us a talk of realistic expectations. My cat's health was plummeting throughout the week and without intake care at a 24 hour emergency veterinary care center, he wouldn't have any positive results. We are low income, and while it is definitely part of decision making process in other circumstances, we tried hard to make sure it didn't interrupt any care that would extend his life if it meant his comfort.
Seeing how much visible pain he was in made the situation devastatingly clear. We did not think he would be able to bounce back so we said our goodbyes. I don't think I will ever believe the choice I made is the right one. Whatever guilt I may carry, the staff at Health & Wellness made sure to make this process as warm as possible. They did not have to clear time for us with such short notice. They did not have to be as giving as they were with the total we paid. They did not have to be so quick or generous with their after care package and return the blanket I left behind. They did not have to burn candles for him on our way out of the building. But they did do these things going above and beyond expectations for someone who was not even a recent patient of theirs.
I would not at all recommend ever putting this veterinary hospital on the spot like I did because my behavior was a little rude. However, they came through for me in a moment of desperation. I have total confidence they shine just as brightly and consistently for not so emotionally drastic veterinary care.
The staff here are attentive and caring, to the 4 legged and 2 legged animals alike. I don't imagine they would let your furry loved ones slip through the cracks. They will tell you how it is and make that tough information as easy to swallow...
Read moreAbout 5 or 6 years ago we were looking to get a second opinion on our dog's cancer diagnosis for which we were given a very bleak outlook at that time. Well, we really hit the jackpot with H&W! Our dog was treated with conventional, as well as with holistic therapy and had two more years of a good quality life before she finally did die of cancer at 12 years old. We love the way our dogs are being handled at this clinic - always with gentle care and respect, the doctors keep up on new developments as far as veterinary medicine is concerned, and we appreciate that holistic medicine is incorporated into traditional treatments. The doctors always take plenty of time for examinations and to answer any questions we have and the staff is always friendly and courteous, as well as knowledgeable. We feel that our dogs really get the best possible care at H&W Animal Hospital and we would recommend this clinic to anyone looking for excellent veterinary care without hesitation! Have I mentioned that our dogs really like seeing their vet, and they are always greeted like old...
Read moreSimply The Best! Dr. Hannah Wells, Dr. Emily Casey & the staff are extremely knowledgable and well-versed in both traditional and holistic medical approaches. Plus, they are just really good people who truly care about all of the animals and their humans. They have worked wonders for my three older cats and my golden retriever. Dr. Hannah was able to treat a skin/anxiety problem in my cat -- which no other vet could get a handle on -- by using acupuncture. Amazing healing within a matter of weeks. Also used acupuncture on my dog to help her heal from a torn ACL, helping us to avoid costly and painful surgery. What I love is that they are not locked into any one approach: if the situation calls for a holistic treatment, they will do that. If the situation calls for traditional solution, they will do that. I have sent many pet owners to them and every time, the owners come back and thank me thank...
