Sept. 17, 2021 (composite over 3 years) - Ever watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? There you have it! Cute local candy & ice cream stop for those of all ages with a sweet tooth! 🍦🍭 I rate this a solid 4.5 experience! (Suggestion later) If you’re in the Harpswell area, we usually include owner Melinda Richter’s Island Candy Company as a stop with “out of town” visitors . . . What’s not to like? Almond & Orange Nougats Caramel Apple Truffles Pumpkin Fudge Coffee Hazelnut Creams English Toffee Peanut Brittle Tiramisu Truffles Raspberry Creams Needhams Golf Balls with Rum Fudge Salted Caramel in Fudge Over 15 flavors of Shain’s Ice Cream ** There’s also souvenir items for sale! Orr’s Island Monopoly Games Maple Syrup Local History Books Etc. Regardless when we stop in, we’re greeted with smiles from the employees, and you might see Melinda in their small kitchen area cooking up more delicious treats. . . all made with Callebaut Belgian Chocolate! During the Covid era all employees were/are masked. There’s a sign on the door limiting customer capacity inside. Thank you, Melinda! The toughest decision, isn’t “to step inside” . . . but what treats to purchase? There’s a good selection of treats & ice cream flavors, for a small candy shop on Rt. 24 . This place really needs to buy smaller dishes to make their sundaes look bigger. I really wouldn't even call it a sundae. It was more like a half scoop of ice cream with the saddest drizzle of peanut butter topping (just enough to charge for), the oldest cherry in the jar on top, whipped cream (standard nothing special), and shaved nuts which ended up, sadly, being the star of the show. I asked if they have candy toppings for their sundaes, a reasonable question I thought for a place named 'the island candy company' and what I got in reply was a look of confusion and "if you mean like dairy queen or something, no. " funny right? I won't be making that trip again. I'll stick to fielder's or even DQ for that matter. Oh yeah and if you're thinking half scoop maybe they're half price? Nope. Notice how much dish you can see and how little ice cream. Can you spot the peanut butter topping!? I couldn't either....

Great little candy shop with delicious chocolate confections, tasty ice cream (I had the Blueberry) very generous portions, and yummy cookies, whoopie pies and baked goods. On the day I was there, there was a medical emergency inside the shop and patrons waited outside in the scorching sun. The owner gave everyone free ice cream once we were able to get in. I would have gladly paid for it, as it was very tasty. I took home some baked goods and chocolates to share with family. Definitely worth a visit if youre in the area!

Really looked forward to this!! The salted caramels were great, as was the peanut brittle and fudge. The truffles were generously sized, but the flavors were lost. Raspberry tasted like dark chocolate only, and the Blueberry was really faint in taste. Did not get to try the ice cream, but looking forward to doing that. I do make my own truffles, but I use liqueurs to flavour, so maybe that is why the flavors were not as pronounced in theirs. But all in all, a wonderful experience, with old-time candies available...
