Just finished freshman orientation for the class of 2026 at The Hartt School! What a phenomenal group of talented artists dedicated to raising the bar for creative works. The excitement among this diverse group of students was palpable. I can’t wait to watch how these young pre-professionals evolve with the nurturing support of a faculty that cares deeply for the success of its students. After auditioning and touring 50 plus colleges for BFA acting and musical theatre programs, this school stood way above the rest. This is a conservatory program that celebrates not only the unique potential of every artist as a valuable human being, but also has a solid belief in their abilities to contribute meaningfully as a collective. The dance instruction is good, and the focus on technique appears to be intended to prepare students for a serious involvement with Ballet. The school unfortunately has commitment expectations for practice and family commitments for children that are not in line with other sports and performances that children participate in. The inflexible policies targeted at ensuring a good performance in December appear to be more in line with a show that would be staged with professionals in NYC than children from Connecticut. A fabulous place for people of all ages to begin to learn a new instrument, fine tune skills they already have, or overall work towards a larger musical goal. The vocal instructors are fantastic in particular, and this is one of the best places for children and teens to work on their musical talents, or learn a new one....
