Quaint bookstore in an historic building, a former detached kitchen. Look out for the small signs with historical information about the building and the steps between rooms. There is something for all age groups and it is organized well. Don't forget to check out the used book section in the back. There is a great selection on local history right at the front door, including some autographed books from local authors.
You can find a selection of leather bound journals and Seabags, totes made from recycled sails.
Be warned that parking is directly off of Highway 12. It does extend to the building beside it so if it looks like there isn't any parking look at the adjoined lot in front of the house nextdoor. If possible, I suggest backing in, as it can be a challenge to leave when you get a long train of vehicles heading south towards Frisco...
Read moreBuxton Village Books is one of those rare, magical places that feels like home the moment you step inside. My family has been vacationing in the Outer Banks for years, and no trip is complete without a visit to this charming little bookshop tucked away in Buxton. It’s more than just a bookstore—it’s a tradition, a staple of our summers, and a place that holds a special place in our hearts.
Every shelf is packed with character, from beach reads and local interest books to children’s favorites and hard-to-find gems. I love that they carry titles by local authors and books about the rich history and ecology of the Outer Banks. The woman that owns the bookstore is always warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable. You can tell she truly cares about books and the people...
Read moreWe’ve been visiting Buxton Village Books for at least 2.5 decades, if not since the store opened. We travel from NKY and it’s tradition to buy books Monday to read on the trip, and have a couple to take home too! Sure, you can buy some authors on Amazon, but why would you? You are vacationing on an island and you should support island economy. I value the owner’s dedication to local authors, to regional writers and arts, as well as carefully curated gift items. The youth reader section is a favorite of my 13 year old. I hate that the most recent reviews for such a tremendous small business are nasty about face masks. Get over yourselves, the world doesn’t revolve around you, thankfully. Nothing gets between me and a trip to Buxton...
