Today, my family and I visited our local Home Outlet store in Hattiesburg, MS to find laminate flooring for the bridal suite in our new event venue. Upon entering the store, we noticed that there was no one at the counter. Undeterred, we proceeded to explore the showroom where all the products were displayed. We have been loyal customers of Home Outlet/Surplus for many years, but unfortunately, this particular visit left us disappointed with the customer service.
After a few minutes of wandering around, we managed to get the attention of a gentleman operating a forklift. He asked how he could assist us, and we explained that we were interested in finding laminate flooring. However, his response caught us off guard as he casually mentioned that one employee had gone for lunch and another might be using the restroom. While it is understandable that people need breaks, his comment seemed unnecessary.
Despite this initial setback, my dad began explaining our specific requirements regarding the laminate flooring. However, the gentleman repeatedly interrupted him and attempted to steer the conversation in different directions. Meanwhile, my mother, sister, and I continued browsing other products within the store. To our dismay, whenever I showed interest in more expensive options, he made snide remarks about their prices compared to alternatives.
What truly crossed the line for me was when my dad mentioned that we intended to use this flooring for our own house. In response, this store manager named Craig Strickland dismissively informed us that it had been discontinued and therefore unavailable. At this point, it became evident that he had completely disregarded our needs and treated us disrespectfully.
Feeling disheartened by his behavior, we decided to take our business elsewhere. We headed over to Lowes instead and ended up purchasing 72 boxes of flooring priced at $4.75 per square foot. It's unfortunate that Mr. Strickland's actions cost Home Outlet a significant sale.
In conclusion, this experience left me with the impression that if we were of a different race, Mr. Strickland might have treated us with more respect. It is truly disheartening to witness such discrimination in a customer...
Read moreWe bought doors, windows and tubs here. They had the doors and tubs on site, so we had no issues with them. However, we brought our floor pans to this place 4-5 times and set down and went over the windows. I told them I didn't want any mistakes. The day I called to pay for the order, my invoice had been lost so they had to create another one for the third time. We waited 4 weeks for the windows to come in. We spent $150 on a uhaul truck to go pick them up. Once we got them to our house, we realized none of the front windows had been ordered and we were missing a window for the kitchen. We made a trip back up to Homeoutlet to let them know we were missing windows only for them to tell us to come back on Memorial Day to speak with the manager. We had to borrow a trailer to bring the windows back. We went back on Memorial Day and spoke with Will, the manager and he said we would have to make another order and wait the 4 weeks. Our new construction home has been sitting there not touched for 4 weeks because the contractor is waiting on the windows. By this point I was upset because this was their mess up, not mine. We opted to return all the windows and order through another company. I was told I would get a $3500 check in the mail for our refund in 7 business days. I am still waiting...
Read moreGreat store that has everything you need for a reno at reasonable prices. It is difficult sometimes because you don't know what exactly is in stock and when or if there will be more..so it is kind of like a salvage store in that respect. They always had what I needed especially doors ...prehung for 175 bucks which is pretty reasonable if you aren't just looking for boring old 6 panel doors. The also have a full kitchen and bath design center which is great if you need help getting your project of the ground. Would reccomend to anyone locally who wants nice stuff at cheaper price than a big box store. Staf fis also amazing. Being disabled they were happy to help get qhat I need and load it up for me for no charge. Only thing I think would be great addition is delivery service. Most of the trim is sold in 16 foot lengths which is difficult to manage even with a...
