I wish I could give 5 stars for my August 17, 2018 visit, but the pathetic pace of play and dead condition of the course preclude such a rating.
Really excited to play this course on vacation to LV. Reviews are great for this course, it's layout, and views... I agree with those reviews.
I booked an on-line rate of $99 per person, then a couple of weeks before we arrived, I received another offer for 15% off. I took up the new offer for ~ $85 per round. When we arrived, the Pro Shop asked where we were staying, then told us the rate was (HOLD ON!!) $478 total (that's $239 per person). I whipped out my on-line reservation confirmation showing $168 TOTAL for 2, which they kindly honored. But they had nothing in their system about my $85 PP rate... odd.
Now let me tell you, living near Sacramento, I've played Edgewood (Lake Tahoe) for about Rio Secco's original 'asking price' per round. There is NO WAY this course was close to a high-end facility. It was actually in worse condition than any municipal course I've ever played. Period. This was not even a $20 per person course, including cart. GRRRRRR. It's hot in Sacramento, but our courses are not dead. I expected some brown areas, but this was ridiculous. Especially given their 'special rate' for tourists of $239 PP.
The pace of play was horrific! 2:45 for the front 9. 5 minutes faster on the back 9. Total: hours 25 minutes. NEVER in my worst nightmare have I played a round that slow. No body heard of 4 hours, or marshaling, or even 4 1/2 hours as they "strive" for? I lost interest and can't even remember holes 11, 14, and 15. Sad. The Marshall said a couple of groups ahead of us were the hold up, but no effort to speed them up or have us play through.
Considering relocating to LV for retirement, so before arriving, we looked into the annual membership (unlimited golf for a flat fee). After this pathetically slow round, not only is an annual membership off the table, but I will not return. The views are great, the course is likely beautiful in prime fall and spring months, but the pace of play and Marshall's lack of concern for pace are...
Read moreThe three star review is purely for service and has nothing to do with the course. We showed up on 8/14/22 at 1pm for a 2pm tee time, and we were constantly rushed from the time we got there. Any golfer knows there is no worse feeling on the course. We flew in that day, dropped our bags at the hotel, and went right there for a tee time we reserved months in advance.
The place was a ghost town so I realized pretty quickly that everyone was just trying to get us out there so they could go home. Since we had just flown in, we were grabbing sandwiches at the range, and a starter came up at 1:30pm (half hour before our tee time) asking us to go out. We were told when we checked in that we were the last group. Then we got to the first tee at 1:45ish and another group showed up at the same time? The best part was at 4:00pm when we got a notification on our cart saying carts were due in at 5:00pm (3 hour round??) We were sold $100 2pm tee times! Then I called the pro shop and asked if that was legit and the guy confirmed! “At the latest please try to be here by 5:30”. They mentioned NOTHING to us about that in the pro shop. Unreal…it was a shame, we were there for my brother’s 21st and we were looking forward to the hype of this course. Very shortsighted management, because there are plenty of courses around and when people ask me about the experience I’ll always tell that story. We ended up playing a 4 hour 10 minute round on a neighborhood course…and our average handicap is a 7. Their own confirmation email to me says they expect us to play a 4.5 to 5 hour round so we were under that lol. We play quickly, but getting rushed...
Read moreI didn't expect to see a gem of a golf course like this one, on this side of the city - I thought all the prestigious golf courses were located in Summerlin. Little did I know there were massive houses surrounding the golf course which made me stop the golf game for a quick minute to take in the views of the nice houses (don't worry, I didn't hold up any groups behind me). On top of that, the views of the city from this golf course was outstanding. I really enjoyed the Rio Secco "Welcome to Vegas" sign when you first arrive; it definitely sets the tone that you're on a Las Vegas (Henderson) golf course.
The golf course itself was maintained very well - the putting surface makes your ball roll true (all missed putts were 100% my fault even though during the game I blamed the greens, my putter, and anything else I could place blame on). The staff working here were awesome! Unfortunately, my wife and I didn't eat here after our round because we had dinner plans at a different location, but I'm sure we'll be back to play the course again and this time, we'll try out the restaurant.
Highly recommend this golf course to everyone visiting Las Vegas and...
