I took a ride based on a recommendation to Laydens. I only wanted to inquire about their briskets. I got way MORE than I bargained for. You have to love the rich history of its location. From the house it's situated in to the vast farmland surrounding it. The entire staff from the butchers to the young lady at the checkout were very helpful, eager even. The selection of their hand processed meats is overwhelming. With unique flavors in their sausage. To the giant wall of cured ham that they will cut for you however much you would like. I did get myself a brisket and I spent 15 hours making the best brisket I could have ever hoped for. So go visit this place. You'll meet the local folks getting their own needed supplies while you're there. And enjoy the rural scenic ride while on the way.

I had heard about the meat specials they have so I made the drive to Belvidere to try it out. WOW! What a pleasant surprise! They were so friendly and eager to help. Loaded the 35 lbs of meat into my car and told me to have a blessed day. It was well worth the 40 minute drive and they will be seeing me in a few month when I need to replenish the freezer.

I love this old country store with its smoked meats and small game and old fashioned candies. It reminds me of my childhood and my grand parents smokehouse. And I was able to score pork belly and this hog head on my last trip here. Hog head tacos will be upcoming.. P.S. the gas price was cheaper than in Elizabeth City, which was surprising.

I have been going to Layden's ever since I was a little girl. It holds fond memories of my Grandmother, Mother and I shopping there wherever we would visit from New York. Now I reside in Elizabeth City and still look forward to the amazing aroma of the meats as you open the door. It is an experience all on its own. They offer the best smoked meats like hams, beacon, jowl to name a few. Sharp Cheese that bites back at you and is a great addition to homemade Macaroni and Cheese. When it comes to their seasoning meat, I think there is none better. One of my favorite things is the Peach Soda in the glass bottle. What a treat on a hot summer day or anytime of year. They carry old fashion candy, fresh and frozen vegetables. The store itself is like a place locked in a time capsules. Wooden floors and a long glass meat counter, reminiscent of the original butcher shops. Staff is helpful and courteous. Every time I visit Layden's, its like a new experience. This is one historic place I pray will never change. I highly recommend visiting and shopping at Layden's Grocery store in Belvedere, NC J...

Known mostly for their meats and old fashioned candy’s. They have more but are not a supermarket. They have the charm of a small country store. The people are friendly. Service is great, though you might have to wait your turn. Merchandise quality is superb, especially the meats! If it’s meat, they have it! Smoked, salt cured, fresh, whatever! This is within reason of course. They won’t have elk steak or bison burgers. But anything from pig tails to prime rib they got. And the quality can’t be beat! Custom cut to your desired size. You want 1”, 1-1/4”, 1-1/2” steak? It’s yours! Can’t say enough about how great...
