Before I decided to give this review, I tried to think of something negative I could say about my experience this year at HCC and you know what, nothing came to mind. Previously I was a two time drop out at this school which put me on academic suspension but what did I care, I had no plans of ever going back to school, then life happens. And it beat me down, so at 38 about to be 39 years old, I wanted to change how my life but didn't want to work in another factory like a guy with no education as I was has to so I though well go big or go home and I enrolled in college for the 3rd time in my life. So I did all the paperwork and punched my data into the computer and thought that was it except I forgot about those two other attempts that I didn't follow through with in my younger days and I was not accepted and was going to throw in the towel but then I gave one last attempt and asked for them to reconsider my circumstances. And as I waited for a decision, I thought that there was no way the powers that be would give me one more chance and I lost hope but then I checked my email and saw it and is why I couldn't come up with anything wrong about HCC, I got my acceptance letter and that moment started my new path in life. So I went and got financial aid and a couple of scholarships and signed up in the IT Networking & Security Program, which is my dream program because I am a giant computer nerd and then come to find out I got the most awesome teacher ever and he teaches us all this amazing stuff that just blows your mind but is really difficult especially at my age. Here's the cool part, I did it, I completed my first semester ever of college and by the grace of Mr. Smith, I got 4.0 as well. So I owe my successes so far to all the wonderful people involved at HCC that gave me the extra chance that I so needed and honestly really didn't deserve and they all have changed my life and couldn't be more thankful because it has been such a pleasure in every aspect of the campus and it's because how amazing the staff is and how good they are at their jobs and how much they all truly care. So ya I got nothing negative to say about this excellent college and I would give it and the staff more than 5 stars if I was allowed and recommend applying and see for yourself how great of an experience they provide while you get an education, thanks all at Hibbing...
Read moreAs a returning student after 2 years of academic failure, my goal was to uproot the issues this college has, from within the Student Senate.
I’m unfortunately quite disappointed to see that many faculty members have retired, or up and quit and that many have given up on what needs fixing.
After a 2 year renovation and now the MN North merger, the focus is most definitely not on the students when it should be.
Hibbing as a town has a distasteful attitude towards newcomers, BIPOC, LGBT folk, And other minorities.
When interacting with the vast majority of college staff, their willingness to help or provide additional support is determined by who your family is or by your surname.
For any prospective students: get involved with senate and do your best to make this place better. Without the student input and engagement, it is impossible to modify some of these unfair practices, behaviors, and attitudes. I will do everything in my power before I graduate to get the teachers/staff/admin to do their jobs correctly, ethically, and to shift the focus back onto “student life” and how to draw in people to this small town college while being inclusive, diverse,...
Read moreDefinitely not a good community college for ambitious students. The admissions staff are pretty oblivious to the needs of the students and is too focused on themselves. They also like offering classes that are flawed. There are some nice staff but I recommend looking for any other college. One class I was in we had spent most of the semester talking about random stuff not related to our curriculum. The material is pretty simple too. It is unfortunate students don't learn this until it's too late. This college will set you up for failure and that is...
