Shipyard Beach Access — Local services in Hilton Head Island

This beach access is a great spot for both residents and guests of Shipyard Plantation to enjoy a pristine slice of Hilton Head Island. The amenities are excellent, including clean restrooms and rinse stations that help you wash off the sand after a fun day at the beach. The boardwalk leading to the beach is well-maintained, offering easy access to the soft, clean sand and beautiful views.

One of the standout features is the relative seclusion of the area. While it can get a bit crowded during peak times, it generally offers a peaceful and relaxing environment, making it an ideal spot for families or those looking for a quieter beach experience.

For visitors with bikes, the beach is very bike-friendly, and the walk to the beach isn’t too long. While parking can be a challenge during busy times, the dedicated spaces for guests and the nearby overflow parking help mitigate that issue. The presence of a small snack stand selling drinks and light snacks also adds a convenient touch.

Overall, I highly recommend Shipyard Beach Access for anyone looking to enjoy a clean, well-maintained beach with great facilities. However, keep in mind that it is more geared toward those staying in the Shipyard area, so access may be limited for the general public. We were at the beach at the end of March before the start of high season in which begins in April. Dogs are allowed until April 1st. It is misleading to have this listed as a public beach, because it is limited to those people staying at the Shipyard Plantation resort and the hotel within the Shipyard resort, the Sonesta. It's a lovely flat beach lovely sand. The waves seem to be small for the most part and safe for small children. There is a lifeguard there even in the off-season. The day we were there the water was still too cool for swimming, but there were people playing in the waves. Lots of children playing on the sand and people walking and riding bikes on the hard part of the sand. Lovely clean place with clean bathrooms. Highly recommend if you were staying anywhere in the Shipyard...

Clean, well maintained beach. The sand is very soft and fine. The water was a bit nerve wracking for me, as the lifeguard warned us about stingrays who like to skim along the bottom of the shallow water. Either way, a great beach. Umbrellas and chairs are available to rent for the day; good quality and decent pricing. We paid around $90 for 5 beach chairs and 2 umbrellas. I am unsure if they accept credit cards or only cash, o didn’t do the transaction. There are trashes available for public use. We came back at night and we’re surprised to find a bunch of people like to come back and hang out and watch the stars and the ocean. Pretty awesome experience, and i felt safe for the most part.
