Hard not to love this course when we live on it, despite our proximity I don't get out on Hills often but had guests from Maryland down and he and I and my son played 18 holes Saturday afternoon. The greens are in really great shape this year with only a couple areas on a few greens that are being finicky to the grounds crew. The grounds crew has really been working long hours over the past year plus to clear out many areas of unsightly overgrown wooded areas of undergrowth, bushes, shrubs, weeds, and pruning the rest of the trees and palmettos to create nice open areas. It really makes a difference in how the course looks and in some area play as balls can now be found in areas they would have been lost. Hats off to the hard working grounds crew and those making the decisions to make that happen. The highlight of our round was our guest in town, on 17... he placed a nice tee shot from the white tees to 135 yards out. From there, he compressed a nice ball to about 12 feet to the left of the pin (which was on the left third of the green), from that point the ball danced to the right and started slowing rolling down the green towards the pin and with the aid of the slope and wind that day, it made one final revolution into the cup for an Eagle 2! Amazing to see that. Obviously will be playing Hills again, such a nice quiet course...

There were many spots that were dried out. When it is mid to late April I don't understand how you can have so many dried out holes on such a "nice" course. Multiple workers were talking up the course prior to me playing about the challenge of the course. I'd say challenge was maybe a 6 out of 10. There is water on I think 10 holes? But they are more to try and have scenic views more than they are to make the course more challenging or add any real hazard. It's a short course when speaking yardage. There were not many if any accomodations for paying so much for a round of golf. Not sure if it was bad timing or what but through 4 hours and 18 holes we only saw the drink cart twice and the first time was after the first hole or two and the other time was around 16 or so. I did have fun golfing in Hilton Head but it is extremely difficult to pay that much money and it not be a round that I won't forget. Sadly, it felt like just another round of golf. The reason my score is a 3 and not lower than that because the workers were friendly, and there was nothing that made the experience "bad". But it just was not more...
Read moreWell if you are in Hilton Head and want a place to play golf I would not recommend here. Coming in I had some expectations when playing golf on the island in mid may. These would be good greens, sand in bunkers and decent range balls just to name a few. I feel like these are all obtainable when the round costs $165 and then range balls are an extra charge. The greens were spotty at best. The only good is that they rolled somewhat good despite having to navigate the bare spots and craters. Every green had spots on them and some were just almost unplayable. Upon entering a bunk I found that it was hard, naturally I didnât think much of it because we just had rain the day before. But these bunkers you could tell had not been raked that morning and had their fair share of rocks in them. Several of the bunkers had so many rocks I thought it was the gravel used in the drainage with a sprinkle of sand in them. Now with some of the good. The course was wonderfully layer out and not overly long, only 6600 from the tips. There was plenty of tees to choose from that fit all the lengths golfers would want to play. The staff was plenty nice and very helpful with this being my first time on the golf course. There was a cart girl running around the golf course which was nice...
