They wanted $4,000 to take my 2 older sun conures who are halfway through life. I went for a visit to see the place and was told the only place they had room for my two birds was in the back and it wasn't anything special at all and was very basic and minimal. The only thing in it was a fleece blanket and I think a perch. It didn't have a water mister like they claim all the cages have and I was told if I wanted that than I would have to pay extra, on top of the $4,000. When I asked if they could have a bathing bowl, I was laughed at and told that they didn't have time to be filling bathing bowls for all the birds they have which I find unacceptable when someone is asking for $4,000. Their sun conures are so filthy that they are black! Even the poor little things eyes are black where it is supposed to be white. If the birds were out in nature, they would have access to bathing which should also be provided them In captivity especially by a "bird sanctuary". I was actually lied to by the man I spoke with on the phone and he told me if I came in that we could discuss the amount because I told him that I couldn't afford that but when I showed up he acted as if he never had said that and said he would ask Patricia but then never even got back with me. He was rushing me off because he scheduled someone after me and they were a half an hour early and they apparantly had a macaw which is what they mainly cater to. He was no longer interested in me because I didn't have money. I don't feel like you should end someone's appointed time for someone who is 30 minutes early. He basically Had zero respect for my time! It appears that all of the funding they get goes into the Macaw aviaries. They look state of the art while the other birds gets some dead tree branches that they pulled out of the woods. I feel like the $4,000 they are asking for should provide my birds a way nicer place! I'm not saying it's a horrible place but it's very basic and it's not worth 4 grand! This place acts as though they are doing a service to help animals but they are just greedy! They know that not too many people can afford to pay what they want and they will let a bird suffer in an unwanted home if someone doesn't have money. Does that sound like someone who loves birds? I even mentioned to them a bird hoarding situation where birds were living in deplorable conditions that were in desperate need of rescuing and was told "I don't want to hear about it, it's too depressing" He had no interest at all in saving those birds! It only costs me less than $10 a month to feed my birds. I'm just not sure why they classified my birds as medium size parrots when they aren't much different in size to the birds they have mentioned in the small parrot category for half the money. Are conures twice the size of a green cheek or a Quaker? Why is it twice the amount of money to care for them? They require half of the money upfront and the rest over a year and $400 would go towards a veterinarian. That seems a little ridiculous as well! They also collect outside donations. I asked if I could make payments for the whole amount and was told no. I also asked if I could volunteer as a form of payment for some of the money and was also told no. I asked if I could get the small parrot rate and was told no as well. They had no intention on working with me in the smallest way even if it was for the best interest of animals. Someone should really look into these greedy people! I almost forgot to mention that they also had chickens in the cage in the back that they offered to my birds and that cage was not big enough for chickens and they had nowhere to roost or sleep and the poor chickens had nothing but large gravel under their feet. The chickens were in other cages as well in similar conditions. That doesn't seem like much of a life for those poor chickens. Anyways, I digress. It just is really unfortunate that there really isn't and good options in the Tampa Bay Area for exotic bird rescue. The other places are just as bad...
Read moreWe cannot recommend enough to try this experience and support this amazing sanctuary!! The level of care put into taking care of these hundreds of birds is overwhelmingly humbling and we are so grateful to have been able to enjoy an afternoon with John and his flock. The birds let you know just how well they are being cared for as they called for John as we approached each enclosure and as they gently and serenely (as serenely as 800+ parrots announcing their feelings in unison gets!!) asked for him to come back as we left. John gave us so much education about the program and each of the birds, it was truly the most fantastic experience! And of course getting to enjoy the GIANT macaw enclosure was our favorite!! We can’t wait to come back and continue to support this...
Read moreI took my babies sunshine and baby to the old location in 2011. I couldn't believe how nice it was and how all the birds seamed so happy. I was even able to hold Floyd their poster bird. She is awesome and does great work with all those birds. She is truly a birdmother...I also had my golden retriever with me who had pillow ear and she drained it and showed us how to take care of that as well as given us the supplies to do so...thats how much she cares. I will always be grateful and thankful to her and for her. She feeds them well too, so if you can please donate as much or as little as you can. It helps all the birds eat healthy and live happier. As soon as i can i am hoping to vist them .Thank you so very much pat, you are a very...
