This use to be an easy 5 star practice facility with terrific many grass tees, multiple target greens with international flags, and every year they would stock up with new practice balls. This year they seem to be getting away from some of those points.
Previously they would move the grass tee position blocks up each and every day so there would be fresh grass to hit from. It seems they are not doing so on a consistent basis anymore. A few times I arrived in the early AM expecting clean grass only find chewed up tees from one or two days of continued heavy use. Look down the line and you will see golfers hitting from beyond the blocks.
The target greens still have flags in place, with ledgers to inform the golfer of distance. This remains consistent.
We are now two months into practice and still using beat up old practice balls, even with a recent $1 per bucket price increase. They have yet to bring in new balls. I am unsure if they plan on doing so this year.
Then there is the chipping and putting practice green. Today I went to practice my newly taught putting stroke, and found the practice green was littered with ant hills. The grass is also very patchy. I could not get a smooth roll from the ball. It is in near sad shape and in desperate need of some TLC.
World Cup Golf Center is still a decent practice facility. But they are not giving it the attention they had in the past to keep it a 5...
Read moreUpdate 7/18/25: I do not know who is running this place, but I can tell them that they are ruining one of the best businesses I have seen in years. You are screwing up a free lunch. You think we don’t notice all the things you are screwing up? Well we do. Came on a beautiful evening at 6:45 and place is closed and all doors locked up. Stop being cheap and cutting corners. Pay people a wage that will attract people and talk to whomever ran it 5+ years ago. You have ticked me off too many times now. No longer my preferred range. I hope that changes. ——————-
Great range, best within 50 mile radius. But you guys are literally printing money. How about some new club washers that are like 8 years past their prime?
I will add one very positive note. The teaching professional they have there now (Tom Clos) is the best golf instructor I have ever worked with. Very quickly gets to the root of the problem and is very effective in his instruction. My handicap went from 11.5 to 9.5 last year and it’s still in...
Read moreThis is the best public grass driving range you will find anywhere in New England. Harmon Golf Center is better but you have to pay for a lesson with a pro to get in (private). There are plenty of directional targets at WCGC and the grass and hitting areas are maintained like a private course. A range finder could be helpful per Nathan Meier's suggestion below but keep in mind many of the range balls aren't what you are going to play on the course so you are going to put more emphasis in ball contact and direction than the distance the ball travels. They also have a nice short game area and are close to Spyglass Brewing and White Birch Brewing for a pint after a solid range...
