We were told, by phone in July, a 10X10 Climate Controlled unit is $98 a month; online price advertised $24.50/wk and at the time the 1st month was free. Since the storage unit was rented on 7/13 we have been charged $398 and some change, this includes 1st month free. They say we were not charged the 1st monthly fee; just the $23+ dollars for required insurance, and apparently $52+ dollars for Administrative Fees (which we were never told additional fees would be charged monthly). They do not even provide you with itemized bills (or any bill for that matter) to show you any details of the charges. The last 2 months we have been charged $160.80 per month for a 10X10 Climate Contolled while the website advertises $19.25/wk with 50% off 3 months, at this present time, for the same unit. If you are going to rent from these people it is very important that you know they charge every 28 days, which means they will get 13 payments out of the year (so that "free" month is NOT FREE at all. That is the very definition of FALSE ADVERTISING) and also changes the due date each month. They could possibly claim it is not false advertisement, because you are not technically charged the monthly rate for the 1st bill, but you cannot advertise that renters get "a month free" when you charge them 13 payments in a year. Basic math; renters would only be charged 11 payments during the year. Shady and false, that is what this is. Insurance is required, but when setting it up online it does not provide an option to skip the insurance section in order to look at other insurance options. They say you pay for convenience, which means the price of the unit depends on the location of the unit at the facility (example: Basic or Premium) but it does not allow you to select the grade of your unit, just the size. So far there has been nothing convenient about doing business with this facility in our experience, and we are starting to see just how crooked they are. As much of a pain that it would be to move everything back out of that storage unit, and to a different facility, at this point it would be worth it because this place has been very sketchy. "I know it seems shady" is exactly what was said when the Customer Service rep was explaining the 1st month free. An honest place does not need to hide fees/charges, or let their employees provide incomplete/inaccurate information just to get new business. We will say Thank You to the Mini Mall Storage in Elizabethton for being there in our time of need, and for having somewhere we could store our family possessions at a moments notice. We thank you, mostly, for the fact that we now know what questions to ask at the next storage facility. We can only hope folks get honest, unchanging, and accurate prices and expectations in the future. We would not suggest this facility to our worst enemy at this point. We hope they can implement some honest changes going forward. We would like to think these folks would not allow an experience like this to happen to their friends & family. P.S. (To: Mini Mall Storage) There is no need to reply with the comment about current market rates, as we have read your previous replies to others about pricing. This is about the fact what you advertise is completely false and your blatant omittance of...
Read moreQuite surprised to learn that this storage company tries to manipulate customers into paying higher fees for the same size units in order to have security for their unit. Seriously? I have to pay additional fees in order to have my unit protected? Quite interesting since i was attempting to rent a climate-controlled unit. What? They have buildings with no security protection? In order to have video monitoring of a unit, you have to pay more. So states their answering service representative. Most storage companies have video monitoring on all of their facilities. Perhaps Mini Mall Storage is having financial difficulties??
The Good, Better, Best approach reminds me of airline pricing strategies. This is yet another company that puts Greed before Customer Service. As the saying goes, "Not if they were the last...." Please do not rent from this organization. Rewarding bad corporate behavior only encourages bad acts by Others.
Edit: The Ownership group reached out to me. Let me correct some their information. Mini Mall is the only storage facility in the Tri-Cities and Elizabethton that have 3 levels of pricing for the same size storage units. This is the only group that charges premium pricing in order to have video security. Additionally, I never had an actual employee answer a phone call. The only entity that answers are Call Center staff. I called repeatedly during stated...
Read moreHi folks. I rented a 10 x10 drive up last year here in e town after the hurricane to store my things while regrouping and relocating and was tickled at the 58/month special I had discovered . The facility and the grounds were kept wonderfully. The unit was great everything fit . I'm now relocated in jonesborough and nowhere close to the unit and the thought of having to move it again to put it away and move it again when my home is finished does not sound practical but after 1 yr and 3 increases in price crammed down the gullet ... it may be worth it to do .my bill has doubled in less than a years time and is now 116 and some change. Like I said it's really clean an kept up actual still looks new.... but the increases on the rates doesn't make it desireable any longer. Reminds me of an insurance company.and from other posts I've read it aeems to be consistent to all ....
