We had a blast!! We did the Watauga River, since my son is just seven years old and it was his first time. It's a great beginner raft ride. There are a few exiting bits of white water, the majority of the trip is pretty calm water. The calm water allows for plenty of play time. They even stop the boats and tie them off together while the riders make a short climb up to a rock overhang and jump in the river. I wouldn't really call this cliff jumping but it is does make for a pretty good splash. With the boats linked together downstream getting back out of the cold river water is a breeze. Also in the calm water the guide plays a game called ride the bull. A rider stands on the front of the boat and the paddlers turn the boat in a circle until the rider falls off into the river. Water guns are welcome for a bit of a battle between boats. We were lucky enough to have Mathew as our guide. He done an excellent job!! Oh...as a bonus we got to see a bald eagle! If you want to introduce the family to rafting this is definitely the company and the...
Read moreGreat staff, clear instructions and safety is a priority. Here’s the rub, the water is cold! You’re 100% at the mercy of the dam. On our day, the river was almost static and as result what we thought would be a float trip turned into a paddling expedition for about 75% of the trip. The estimated float time was supposed to be 2 hours but in reality it was about an hour and 40 minutes. Towards the end, there was kinda of push by the guides to get us to hurry up because once again you are at the mercy of the dam and there was a scheduled generation of the dam at noon and we needed to be off the river. Please understand, this not a negative review but just my experience that day. It’s just food for thought, because the outfitter has several factors to deal with beyond...
Read moreOur family had the best time out on the Watauga River today with our river guide Harvey! Beautiful scenery on an easy-going raft ride with a few super fun rapids. Magical moments like a flock of geese taking off from the water and flying in formation right over our heads! Harvey was a fantastic guide. He was awesome with our six and nine year old girls, making them laugh and giving them wonderful encouragement along the way. He made the slower parts of the river more fun by coaching us to spin the raft in the easy rapids and letting the kids sit up on the bow of the raft. He also pointed out wildlife, scenery, and historical places. Really neat. Check in was great and Courtney (I hope I got her name right!) was so friendly and helpful. We had a blast and hope...
