We bought tickets to the derby. We arrived early enough, on purpose, to get decent seats. Having never been to this fair before we were unaware of the clear bag policy. My 6"×6" purse was too big, so I waited outside the gates for my grandson to take it to the truck for me. While I waited I watched purses larger than mine. , and even backpack being allowed in, by simply opening them to be inspected. I was not given that option, even though my inhalers were in my purse. When we were finally seated (3 of us) we were told by a worker that we had to allow 2 more people into our row. We stood and stepped out to allow them in, and she pro ended to wave 5 people in,.3 kids and 2 adults that were larger adults. Our seats were taken. The adult male of that group declined his seat so we could have ours back. The woman who seated them acted as if we were being wrong by protesting. All the seats were full. People were standing in front of the bleachers, and secunity was telling them they couldn't stand there! This event was way over sold. People paid money to watch a race they couldn't see. I've been to a lot of county fairs around the state. This was the worst one I've ever attended. I'll never go back. Oh, and if you normally drink a beer at the races, you'll want to know there's no alcohol allowed or sold on that...

The animals on show were great, and the handlers were most happy to talk to us. The "gun fight" was most amusing. There were lots of bad jokes bandied back and forth. It was very funny and enjoyable. There was plenty of food on offer. We had an obligatory corn dog and fresh lemonade. The strawberry rhubarb pie with vanilla ice cream was a...

It's one of the few fairs that have a traditional carnival. The rides are clean and fun. Make sure you stop and have a meal with the cattlemen and the pork producers. A must do...
