The loss of a loved one is always filled with grief and stress as arrangements must be by those left behind. My father in law had requested a Green Burial, so I began my research. My first interaction with Ken Darney at Joshua Tree Memorial Park was incredibly helpful as he answered all of my questions and offered recommendations for the benefit of my family. I had been struggling to find a mortuary in San Diego County that offered "green services" and Ken pointed me in the right direction and coordinated directly with the mortuary staff.
Prior to the commitment, Ken generously sent me an email advising me of the process and what to expect. He knew that we would be traveling the same morning and he graciously allowed us time to prepare ourselves before proceeding with the burial.
As we made our way to the site, I noticed that special care had been taken to place a shade for our comfort along with folding chairs. We felt supported as we proceeded with the elements that reflected our family's spiritual beliefs. The staff was respectful and available.
Earlier upon our arrival, I had casually mentioned that I was really looking forward to a cup of coffee after the service. When I returned to the office after the burial, I walked in to find that Ken had a cup waiting for me. This incredibly thoughtful gesture stayed with me the rest of the day.
Prior to our departure, Ken suggested that my young adult kids might want to consider adding a natural stone to be personalized and placed near the grave site. What a lovely way of including the entire family to find another way to honor the memory of a beloved member...

For a sad situation, we ended up being incredibly happy we...
