First, let's start with the cleanliness of the restrooms.... I suppose they clean them once daily, despite the thousands of people who tromp the swap meet when it's running. Handsoap, paper towels, toilet paper? Oftentimes there is more on the floor, or draping and wet across the toilet seats rather than on the rolls. I don't use their restrooms anymore because I don't like to sit on urine-splattered seats next to wads of toilet paper smeared with feces, on the floor. Yikes! Secondly, either the people are terribly rude, or they don't speak enough English to be able to handle everyones' needs. They look at me like this white person should speak Spanish, and who am I to make a request of them. Work? What's that? My grandfather marched for civil rights and I was not raised with a prejudice bone in my body, so I don't understand the reverse.... Asking for assistance is sometimes a challenge. While speaking with am employee I feel a disinterest in what I'm saying (that is, If they understand, or give a rip). Then, ... they allow someone else to butt into our conversation, talk right over me, like I want even there. Then brush me off and tell me to go see a manager. With a simple question? Oh. Ok. I guess the management allows such treatment of their customers. Such a shame. Next. Let's look at the parking. I have a handicap placard. I've been patronizing this place for years. 35+. Recently, the watchdogs at the entrance/exit have denied people, me included, entrance DESPITE THE FACT THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS SPOTS AVAILABLE. I know. I saw them. Last week there were literally a dozen empty spaces, and I had to contact management to tell the watchdog to let me in. He did. So many empty spots that I got a 1st place spot!! This week, watchdog ,"Abel," denied me entrance. So, again, I called their number and this female tells me security might have a reason for not allowing handicaps to enter and park there. Do they not know that those spaces are owned by the state of California??? Apparently not. They will be informed as soon as I get in there. Their biases, treatment of handicap drivers, and. Lest I, dare l, say, non- Spanish speakers, is quite unacceptable. Little do they know, I am fully Bilingual in Eng/Span.!! This place has, in my opinion, terrible management. The right hands don't speak to the left hands. They have shown me that they are unorganized, largely disrespectful, biased, and possessing attitudes that project an, "I don't really care if any of you come here to shop..." The employees who are supposed to be sweeping the messes made by customers who incessantly throw their trash on the asphalt, saunter around, checking out the opposite sexes, chatting with friends and other employees. (Eek glad! What's that broom doing in my hand!?? Well, nothing). This negligence has been a factor in me slipping in whatever food or liquid they bypassed, not to mention globs of gooey gum not picked up. My left knee has never been the same. So these are my own experiences, my own feelings, what I've observed, and own my conclusions (to which I have a right). If you have a rosy experience, great. I'm happy for you. But right now, I say, "Shame on the lot of them. I'm...
Read moreI'm giving this place 1star because I can't give none on a review. I rent space here on the weekends to sale stuff and have had a problem everytime. The customers are alright but there is a female security guard that doesn't a speak English that gives me problems every time I come into contact with her. She acts as tho she is mad at me for being Mexican and not speaking Spanish. If it were up to me I would speak Spanish but I am only half Mexican and my father died at a early age and get was the parent of Mexican heritage. I only say that this is the reason because most of the people who have booths there are Mexican and she acts very nice and is polite and greets them with out any problems. I do the same process they do. Pay,get my receipt and paperwork and go get in my car and approach the workers entrance and present it to her. I'm the only one I have ever seen get stopped and this is Everytime. She checks over my paperwork and calls in to verify and acts very suspicious of me and looks for any reason to harass me. She will have me pull over to the side and wait for more security to come and talk to me in English and the while time she is letting everyone else go in without checking or calling in to check on them. I've tried being nice and polite but she isn't having it. Some day she is going to catch the wrong person on a bad day and they are going to do something to ruin her life. I can only pray for her boss to fire her just to protect her from getting the inevitable consequences that come to security guards that like to power Trip. Good luck you lil unhappy miserable hater of English...
Read moreThe Swap Meet here is great on any day. I have been going to it for thirteen years now. I have tried ALL the other ones, but this one still knows what it means to BE a swap meet. The vendors sell both new AND used. They work hard, are reliable and sell great stuff too! The prices are good and reflect the economy to the extent that they don't go down to ridiculous, just bargain-basement levels. The staff workers are great too! I drive a long way to go to this swap meet! IT IS WORTH EVERY MILE! I go for the used items. There is so much of both that it is remarkable! The items change from week to week with some vendors, and that always keeps it interesting! If something doesn't work they will do right by you every time! They are the BEST! Thanks for being there all these years! We go to Walmart less these days because the prices can't usually be beat at Rubidoux! The city is starting to look terrific these days! Families are happy and safe here too! Van Buren Swap Meet in Riverside is somewhat nearby, but it is all new items high-priced and the same stuff, with traffic galore, unless you show up right before closing. Their lot is not level like Rubidoux is, so walking is a chore with packages, strollers, wheelchairs and walkers. The restrooms at Rubidoux are clean and stocked, usually all day long, while Van Buren's aren't.The food at Rubidoux is good, cleanly handled and cooked, with reasonable prices. You can have a good time here, we have, and we will keep on coming every weekend as long as it's there! Still going strong, pick the right day though. Even though the prices are up a bit, where...
