This is the most beautiful beach I have ever been to. It offers variety such as rough surf, a calm river, rope swing and breathtaking lava pools (natural pools carved into lava rock that are attached to the ocean).
I'm a self proclaimed "Haole" or tourist or whatever you want to call me but I'm pretty salty about the greedy CEO landowner who has privatized Kilauea Falls with the help of crooked local officials. It really puzzles me how someone is allowed to own a natural waterfall or river. I'm currently trying to build up a legal case. I hope common sense eventually prevails. On a completely unrelated note someone is killing the trees at Rock Quarry Beach...Someone who doesn't care about the environment or the people who enjoy the beach.
Anyway, parking spots can be difficult to find here so go during an off-time. It gets more and more crowded every year I visit. If you visit I beg of you to please leave the area in as good or better shape than it was...

I advise going down wailua road off the highway south of kilauea. There were locals (main-landers who live there now, not native islanders) hanging out drinking and peeing in the stream, surfers doing their thing. I was on the cliff side and witnessed the power of the ocean as it crashed into the cliff side and water shooting straight up over my head. I caught this beach on a dirty day as it recently rained and the stream brought more debris down from the surrounding hills. Still being affected by the record storms that...
Read moreA beautiful hidden beach. It seems only the locals tend to go here or visitors who have been here before. You need to take a gravel road down and the parking is limited to around 20 - 25 vehicles. Care to be taken if it has rained recently. The beach itself is perfect for those who like to surf. Beautiful break waters. For those that like to watch, go past the stream on the left and climb around to the cliffs on the left. From here, you are really close to the surfers and can take some awesome pictures. Also, the locals take the time to gather the garbage and pile it nicely in a given...
