Kukuiolono Park & Golf Course is a COMPLETE HIDDEN GEM on the island of Kauai! We stayed at a high end VRBO in Koloa where we paid high end money to golf 18 holes. As we drove over to the Port Allen area to drop people off for a day of snorkeling (boring), we came across this 9 hole course off the beaten path. Thinking it was just an executive course, was our first mistake. It is a full blow 9 hole course, but if you want to play it as a executive Par 3, they have markers for it. Expecting to pay a hefty price to golf, the cost was $15 for 9 holes per person, and $15 for a cart, that was split per player, costing $7.50 each. We golfed in Kauai for $22.50 for 9 holes. We went inside and grabbed beers at the bar, and decided to go play 9 more. Since we already paid a $15 "donation" for the green fees, the only cost was the $7.50 per person for the cart. Unreal! We played the challenging 9 holes again, and called it a day. THE GOOD: Gas carts were awesome. Bar / Food area was clean and the employees attentive. The views from all the holes overlooking the ocean were phenomenal! Greens were well kept. THE BAD: Cant take beers on the course. Had to drink them in the bar area. Not a big setback for us, but could be if you are beer-golfer, and require swing lube. You will thank me for making the trip over here to play, Just don't tell everyone, because next time we go back, we will play this course all day. A true value of a golf course for any location I have ever played. Keep up the great work Kukuiolono Golf Course!

My wife and I are looking around the southern portion of Kauai for places where healthy walks can be had. If it has beautiful vistas, so much the better. Our friendly nut roaster in Koloa told us about this park. The main walk js back up into the woods. It is a clear path obviously maintained but not too civilized. It is 0.75 mile total with a pleasant mix of rises and dips. Most of the wildlife in here seem to be snails and songbirds. On our most recent walk we were followed/serenaded by a white-rumped shama. Delightful. Most importantly, the chickens did not follow us in. There is another pathway that follows some of the golf cart path. Here a vista of the southern shore lies below you. The ocean colors are quite distinct from this height. The path ends at a pavilion designed for weddings and receptions.

We travel to Kauai every 2 years and have always enjoyed the course until this visit. This visit we encountered a very hostile and aggressive employee whose name I believe is Noby? The course is always slow and we expect this. I had rental clubs from the club house that I had agreed to return by 6pm. After the second hole I had to wait after every shot for the group in front of us. At 5:30 on tee #6 I decided to walk to hole eight to see if it was clear to play a final 2 holes and have the clubs back by 6. On hole 2 I joined another player who was playing and waiting. I expressed to my new partner I was going to go to #8 and he warned me of Noby. As we were walking to #8, not across a fairway but through the park we were almost attacked by a man(Noby) in a red cart yelling at us and questioning what we were doing. We tried to explain but were yelled at that there was no skipping holes, the course is full, you have to go back to hole 6 and wait your turn. This was crazy. We weren't cutting, the 2 groups, and only 2 groups were still on 6 and 7. A yelling match developed with the employee before we just kept walking. My Fiance who was just walking stopped to take a picture in the shrine/garden area and Noby drove up and yelled at her that she had to move along. This was at 5:40 PM with dog walkers all around the park and course. As I made it to the #8 tee box I was so angry I decided to call it quits. As I was putting my gear up, here comes Noby again to yell at me telling me to hurry up. All the time hes calling me "bra" and your not showing "Aloha bra". I can see the #7 green from where I am and there is no one behind me. Ive never been on a course that had such a terrible employee. When I reached the club house an employee asked how it was. I explained I only played 5 holes before being chased off, that's how I felt. He shook his head looked at another employee and said, "Ah Noby", this gave the impression that he is a known trouble.

If Noby is the ranger or what ever, it's also his job to try and keep the flow of play moving and help all the guests have a enjoyable time on the course. I have loved playing the course the 10-12 times prior, but I will never return.

I'll be playing Puakea where its only 35$ anytime for 9 holes and not wasting my time driving to...

The views of the South Shore from the practice range are beautiful. But be careful....You get what you pay for. While this course is very affordable, our experience was not at all positive. We are frequent golphers and know the general rules of a golf course. We attempted to golf here on a Tuesday. The course is older but fine. The clubs and bags are ancient and in poor shape. We called ahead for a tee time and were told they don't accept them, but it wasn't busy and a good time to come. There were 3 of us. On hole one there came a loud speaker announcement that no one tee off any hole until the folks ahead of you are on the green. Ok, the hole was not a par 3, but apparently their rules. There was a group of 4 ahead of us. By the time we started hole 2, an employee came out to tell us we needed to golf faster. Not sure how we were supposed to do that when we were on the heels of the folks ahead of us, but ok. Not more than 2 minutes later the same lady came out and told us we had to pick up our balls and go " immediately" to the next green. When we pointed out that the folks ahead of us were on the green, she actually started yelling at us and said she had 14 people waiting to play golf and they needed to speed things up. Well, that was about it for us. We went there to play golf, not to be herded through like a bunch of cattle just because they do not take tee times and make people wait to tee off. Quite irritated by now, we picked up our balls and headed back to the office and not surprised to be met by the group ahead of us who were also leaving the course because the employees who were cutting the grass had yelled at them 2 or 3 times to get moving because they were golfing to slow. We pretty much demanded our money back and were told they don't give refunds by the same lady who yelled at us on hole 2. We asked to speak with the manager, told there wasn't one, but a different employee agreed to refund our money. The moral of the story...You get what you pay for. We headed over to Kiahuna Golf Club, paid a bit more, dealt with wonderful employees and had a terrific golf experience. We golfed at Kiahuna 3 times while we...

If you're a tourist, stay away. It's painfully obvious the older gentleman working the office does not like anyone outside of the locals or other native Hawaiians. We listened to a teen ask him a simple question, if the restaurant was still open. The worker's response was 'Is the door open? Then no.' He could have simply said no. Instead he tried to be sarcastic with a teen boy (a stranger to us, we just witnessed it). So then that kid left and it was our turn. Since it was getting later and I noticed the main gate said they're locked at 5:30, I asked him how late does the mini golf stay open, just to make sure we would have time. His response was 'as late as I say it does.' Well that was a non-helpful answer. We then realized it was cash only, and he 'kindly' pointed to the sign after we saw it and noted that stipulation. We didn't have enough cash, so we asked if there was an ATM given there was a sign noting there was one. He proceeds to point to that same door the kid was asked about earlier and then asked us if the door was open. Knowing good and well 5 mins before he asked the kid the same exact question and he obviously knows that they were already closed for the day. By this point, we decided to cut our losses and leave since this guy obviously hates life or at least those who aren't the same as him and no one deserves to be treated that way when neither visiting party was anything but kind and friendly to him in return. We didn't even attempt to return the next day when passing through. It just wasn't worth it for mini golf.

I'm Native American, I get and understand the animosity towards outsiders at times. But you're getting paid to deal with tourists in a professional manner. At no point does that give you the right to express your dissatisfaction with life and others you consider outsiders while working that job. It was completely unprofessional how he spoke to a kid and then us. This was the only poor experience we had with any local while...
