Baker Creek Preserve — Local services in Knoxville

What’s not to love? The AMBC developed this absolute gem of a trail network and park. Plenty of multi directional singletrack, a pump track, jump line, unidirectional trails for gettin sendy and it’s only a couple miles outside downtown and is in truly the very finest area of the county, South Knoxville. The place is far far too crowded to be fun on super sunny weekend days but is absolutely deserted most weekday mornings and has lots of off peak hours moments. You can of course walk the trails there and it’s OK for that but if you want to hike, Knoxville has many better choices. There is something for most riders at Baker Creek and it’s connected to several other local trail networks. There is an 11-12 mile loop called the South Loop that you can follow even having never ridden there before as there is clear signage throughout the trails. I am a novice mountain biker but my inlaws are very into the sport. They encouraged me to join them here at Baker Creek as it is thrilling but beginner friendly. We started with Sycamore Loop to build confidence. It was a pretty busy day and we ran into a lot of traffic. It felt pretty smooth so we moved on to Cruze Valley. This was immediately more of a challenge- quite the climb up and like a roller coaster coming down! It was a little scare but totally fun! If you’re just dipping your toes in I recommend trying these trails out. Both accesible right here on Baker Creek Preserve. Afterward we rode leisurely around the park adjacent to the street, playing around a few of the ramps. We ended our day with a late lunch at 71 South. Overall it was an unbeatable morning! One of best trail systems in US. They have something for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. Even the hardest trails are rollable to build confidence. There is a well developed skill section for kids to seasoned rider. They have a unique pump track and paved downhill jump line. The jump lines like Barn Burner and Devils Racetrack are super smooth and flowey. Even the cross country trails and climp trails have nice flow to them.
