Used to love this place, often they have decor, furniture, or remodeling pieces and can help save money. Today I purchased 2 large canvases and a piece of furniture meant to hold a large trash can as well as some smaller items. After moving stuff around in the car, we had to pull out a piece of styrofoam in order to fit the furniture piece and could not fit it in the car again without someone holding it in their lap. Since it was smaller than what we purchased, and would compress in a dumpster, we didn’t think it would be a problem to set it in their dumpster so I walked around with it while my spouse and brother finished packing up the car. An employee approached me and let me know that was generally not allowed but I could ask inside if it was okay. I said alright and went back and grabbed it and was waiting for the car to pick me up. Since I didn’t immediately walk away, he got another employee to come and yell at me about it and tell me well we have to pay for trash… well yeah most of us do, but I bought more than this amount and can’t fit it in the car. She said well it’s not allowed because we have to pay for trash and gave me a rude look like she was waiting for me to walk somewhere else instead of waiting for my car??? My brother and my spouse and I were out for their birthdays and wanted to enjoy shopping but instead my day was ruined by being yelled at and my brother has to hold trash in his lap so now we’re just going home because the vibe is ruined. Just a really rude encounter and we likely will not be back. Used to be in there weekly and liked the staff and atmosphere so left a second star because this wasn’t them. Just super disappointed in what was supposed to be...
Read moreI had items to donate, and would have brought them in but couldn’t find any information for drop off so went with the pick up option. I uploaded the photos, and when I went to schedule it was a month wait! Still, I loved the idea of donating so figured I could store the items until then (much to my husband’s frustration). The day of the appointment, set for noon, I scheduled to leave work early. I get a call at 11am. The driver is at my house! An HOUR early!?! Thankfully I left the garage unlocked and we confirmed what I wanted to donate over the phone. He informed me the largest item, a table and chairs set, they wouldn’t take. Why didn’t they inform me of that when I uploaded the photos? I can appreciate having standards for donations but the lack of respect for my time, uploading photos, scheduling time to be there after a long wait for pick up, to have them show up early and pick through my stuff to reject it. They could have discerned what was acceptable in the photos and not wasted my time. I’m done with Habitat Restore—buying (last time we went to buy the used item was almost the same price as a new one )...
Read moreI was a huge fan of the Onalaska Restore. I have bought many like-new remodeling items from it. However, I had an experience today that brought my opinion of the store from 5 stars to 3 stars. I wanted to drop off 2 sinks, one like-new and the second brand new never used. The doors were open and staff was within view by the dumpster. They refused to allow me to drop my sinks off and wanted me to come back in 20 minutes when the store was "officially open" at 10 am. I was in a big hurry and could not come back. I think that is ridiculous when staff was right there. I will not be patronizing the restore any more, either to purchase or donate. I would not recommend this store to anyone else. This is supposed to be a service both for the store and it's patrons. This experience proved that the store...
