I'm going with 5 stars and will adjust accordingly, if necessary. But coming from an absolutely horrendous experience in a facility located in League City, we are extremely happy with Sylvan Shores. My mom was admitted as a long-term care patient at the beginning of March 2022. So far, her care has been great. However, I am realistic about the current demands on the healthcare industry - especially post-covid - and understand that there is a industry-wide shortage of nurses and especially CNAs. So yes, at times it seems understaffed, but that is a result of conditions outside of their control and I truly believe they are doing the best they can. We all need to come together and advocate for the medical community! But the management seems to be very good (opposite of previous experience) and what they are NOT doing is staffing with "agency" as a crutch, which makes a HUGE difference. Trust me on this.
The nurses on my mom's hallway are wonderful. They all communicate with us directly - and communication is the key element. I have been able to discuss all my concerns and they are always accommodating. And the CNAs are all gentle and caring. We truly appreciate them so much!
The food here is amazing! Real food cooked on site (sometimes even bbq'd out back!) and delivered hot and on time every day. It's very consistent. A stark contrast from the previous facility. Five stars all the way on the food!
The facility itself is clean, and nice. The common areas are beautiful, inviting, and spacious. There are numerous places to sit and visit with your loved one. To me, the entire facility has a calming effect. I refer to it as the Ritz Carlton. Lots of amenities like coffee, water/ice and drink machines.
They have a robust activities department. You can tell the activities director loves her job.
So this is my review. I wanted to take the time to make our experience known. If my opinion changes, I will certainly come back and update this review, but as of today, I would highly encourage anyone to select this facility for their loved one. It truly eased so much of our stress and made us feel like we were not crazy for questioning the prior care our mom received. We are so appreciative of their care...
Read moreMy review is basically a review with two different times in mind. My wife broke her leg and was there for about 6 weeks. I will mention the first part and the second part. The first part my wife was made to wait to see the nurse after hitting the call button for 2 hours and her pain pill took 3 hours to get to her. When I looked down the wing of the portion she was on, there were many call light lit, and all these patients needed attention. It appeared to my untrained eyes that they place was way understaffed, which some of the other reviews showed. At this time I did everything I could do to have her transferred to Bayshore Hospital, however they were only taking out patients not inpatients. So we decided to tough it out. However in the next week there were some drastic changes, gone were the days of the patient call lights being on all up and down the halls, gone were the days of waiting hours on end to get medicines, gone were the days of waiting 2 hours for a nurse. The manager had hired some new people and had some great results. Sylvan Shores became a highly professional location for those who need their services and if I ever needed their services again, I wouldn't hesitate to be one of their patients. Before closing out this review, I would like to thank all the nurses, doctors (my wife saw a doctor once a week), staff, and office personnel. Most especially one of the ladies named Tanja, who my wife and I were crazy about, what a lovely person. I also tip my hat to the admin Tonya Fuller who put up with grouchy me versus the level headed me.

Read moreI am very disgruntled and felt I needed to write this review in hopes that a resident or family member would not have to go through what we did this morning on July 23, 2024, with Jennefer Loftice, I had an issue with the wheelchair that my mother currently uses. Jennefer made me feel belittled and disrespected and my mother felt unsafe and it gave my mother anxiety, and made her feel uncomfortable , as she relies on the wheelchair she was currently using. My mother is in stage 4 with Parkinsonism, and is wheelchair bound along with many other health issues.
Jennifer does not show compassion at all and honestly does not need to be in the industry, she has a very bad attitude and always looks mad at the world every time we see her, which is weekly. She wanted to handle the unsafe issue with the wheelchair, by stating that only if it could not be repaired she could get it replaced, the wheelchair had been repaired before, and in the meantime what was she suppose to do???
I am glad I am there to advocate for my mother, if anyone would like to reach out to me about the incident this morning, please do so.
I do want to add that Cherry & Chelina resolved the issue with much love and respect within 10 minutes by locating my mother a wheelchair , I also want to add that Sylvan Shores is beautiful and my mother loves it there!
Cherry is outstanding, and Chelina is always hugging and showing love to mom among many other employees that are wonderful!
Lastly, I have spoken to families of the residents and employees that feel threated by her and have gone and issued complaints and unfortunately action...
