I stopped by this Desert Tower on my way to Phoenix from SD. I believe this location is part of SD as well. This tower is interesting. It is made out of small boulders alone the I8. I would mistaken this to be a light house if this was near the ocean. Inside, there's a circular near 360 degree window view of the outside. Inside is a small give soft with all kinds of wonderful stuff if you want to bring back a little souvenir. On the outside, there's a boulder park you can walk up to. it's like a little mini caves and tunnels you can go through, but be careful with your steps. There's also a opening with some picnic tables. it's great to just take a breather from the long drive, visit the tower and the boulder park, have some picnic before continuing the long journey. Oh, by the way, the people there are just friendly. Oh, one more thing. there's a donation box outside by the boulder park. Be sure to contribute a few greens for the great people that is keeping the place nice and clean. It cost money to flush your radiator water. you know.

I noticed this cool and quirky place while traveling along Interstate 8 going from San Diego to El Centro. The drive to the tower is just as quirky. You get met by a guy named Coyote, and his profession is flying saucer repair services! He has many of his creations on full display along side the old road leading to the tower. You can get out and take pictures with a couple of the aliens that are in the drivers seat of these incredible saucer craft. Don't forget to leave him a tip for his craft mastery. When you reach the tower, you instantly get transported back to the 1920's when the tower was built. It has a full gift shop of pictures, rings, postcards, and old memorabilia from decades in the past. It is ran by a nice couple, and their four dogs. He visited the tower as a kid, and now owns it. She knows the history of the land and details the history of the wagon trails all the way through the construction of the interstate that cuts through the property. She does Yoga too and when i departed said, Namaste! I don't know what that means. I do know the amazing feeling i had being there. Cost to go up in the tower and out on the property to see the rocks is $6.50. This is one of those rare roadside attractions i hope is always around, even 100 years into the future. Who knows, maybe then we will get to the Desert Tower in our own flying saucers!...

I love oddities and this place qualifies. When travelling across the wide open spaces of the desert I believe it is always good to stop at overlooks, stretch a bit, and take a few pictures. Well this place is right on the verge of strange. In te almost middle of nowhere on the top of a ridge is a a tower that as been constructed with local rock and a bit of who knows what else. It will cost 4.50 to go up into the tower and I am happy to give these people some change to keep things like this going into the future. There is a collection of what some would call junk as you go up the tower, but as the host said go on up and poke around. the view from the tower stretches for a real long ways and is fun to get those pictures and see some of the tidbits that have been collected here over the years. I really liked the child who had made a replica and won a ribbon. I wish it had a date on it?? As the award was done in a typewriter, that adds some background for those sleuthing. I say come on in an give it a view for yourself. the tower is a good stop for a bit on an otherwise long drive to who...
