THIS COMPANY WILL USE AN ERROR CODE READER AND NOT "MECHANIC" A SINGLE THING WITH TOOLS.
(This is a modified version of an email I finally sent them after sitting on it for 3 months.)
APPLIANCE MECHANICS (that's not even true) tech "Ray" was polite and cordial, and I did not watch him work, but I gathered from the notes he plugged in the appliance error code reader and didn't actually look at the drain pump itself.
SEE ALL MY SUPPORTING EVIDENCE - PHOTOS.
He could have fixed the problem, the drain pump did not need replacement. My disappointment is that a REPAIR TECH working at a company called APPLIANCE MECHANICS couldn't be bothered to do anything besides read the error codes.
I knew there were multiple code errors, they display on the washer. I had already looked them up. Based on those, I had already taken these actions:
Machine not level - After I dealt with leveling it, a new one popped up, Excess Water - Next I got rid of the excess water, another new one...
I decide it's getting of my wheelhouse at 67 years of age, but being I am a senior on a fixed income, the name APPLIANCE MECHANICS gave me the impression someone would work on my washer with TOOLS.
SEE THE INVOICE. I paid $142 for the DIAGNOSIS that I needed a new DRAIN PUMP.
ESTIMATE FOR THE NEW DRAIN PUMP: $430 PLUS TAX. (See photo of Estimate, my contact info removed)
ACTUAL COST: FREE (20 min fix, my Mr Fix it guy was so disgusted with APPLIANCE CODE READING MECHANICS he did it for free.
After Ray's visit I reached out to my "Mr. Fix-it" guy, a jack-of-all-trades to get his opinion. He said that being only 3 years old, it very well could be something simple, he asked me if APPLIANCE MECHANICS actually looked at it. I said I didn't think so because he was not down there long enough to do anything else--about 10 minutes. Plus, he walked out with the code reader in hand, and no Allen wrench that Is required to look at the pump filter. My Mr Fix It guy walked out with the Allen wrench and DRAIN PUMP FILTER in his hand.
We got the model number from your Receipt/Estimate. He watched a couple YouTube Videos to figure out the best way to access the drain pump. Mr. Fix-it said it was very easy to access and remove with the Allen wrench.
SEE PHOTO of the DRAIN PUMP FILTER with the offending blockage material (cat hair).
RAY DID NOT CHECK TO SEE IF IT WAS CLOGGED, He can't say he checked it, the proof is in my photo.
IT WAS CLOGGED. Not Damaged or Defective. JUST CLOGGED.
What a total waste of money. I DID MORE THAN HE DID.
I can't really think of a way to rectify this because this is just bad business. Wow. Seniors especially need to be warned about this practice at your company. I was ready to DUMP a perfectly good washer, haul it to the alley and buy a used washer--for nothing.
I plan on sharing my experience on Yelp, NextDoor, TrustPilot, HomeAdvisor, Angie's List, wherever I can find your presence and a...
Read moreOliver is one of those extremely rare people whom I can recommend without any reservations. He brings a combination that is so rare these days: a dedicated passion for his work, the experience to make that passion mean something significant, an amazingly modest yet confident attitude, and just an overall quiet awareness and competence I rarely encounter nowadays.
His passion is the kind of passion which is shown through all the little details he knows about the appliances he works on or even talks about, details of the sort only someone truly fascinated with such things would know. You can just tell he lives, breathes, and probably dreams appliances. Unlike someone who just reads up on such things as a hobby, his more than two decades of experience ground his attention to details in reality, giving him that rare intuition and insight that only comes from an incredible depth of understanding and knowledge.
As a particular example, when he was at my home fixing my fridge, we were talking afterwards when he suddenly asked "Is your dryer a Maytag?" Turns out he could hear a screw was working its way loose. Didn't even cost any additional for the quick repair to the dryer in addition to the fridge. (Glad we happened to be running the dryer when he was there!)
In short, Oliver knows his stuff. Do not hesitate to call him for any issues with your fridge, dryer, dishwasher, range, hood fan, even...
Read moreRead moreDecided to call them after hearing from a neighbor that they charge $90 to come out & it goes towards cost of repair. Couldn't be close to Reality. While the service was Good, the technician was nice and answered my queries (hence the 3 stars), the pricing was a SHOCKER .. I paid $450 to replace a terminal block on my Oven !!! A charge of $135 to come diagnose. Fair I thought (maybe the prices went up).. the tech found the terminal block had fried ...but then I got hit by a $250 charge for fixing it (which was just replacing a terminal block). I couldn't make sense of how it costs $135 till the point of diagnosis.. & then $250 from that point on to add a terminal block (a small part & 3 wires as shown in picture) & put the oven back. Granted he said he'll charge me a bit to pull out my microwave to access the wires (took him 5 mins) .. but dang $250 !!! Totalling to $450 !!! That works out to $250 an hour! It was a bit unreal, but I had to get back to my meetings, so I paid & called them next day to check if the pricing was fair. They told me a senior tech would take a look and call me back .. it's been 10 days since... Haven't heard back. Meanwhile I asked around & used AI to figure out what it costs for such a repair. This was way above top dollar. VERY PRICEY!! Hence the review. P.S - Called the manufacturer Frigidaire. Their own technical (or contract) would charge $190 + the part price for...
