Away from the crowds, big box gyms is a gym hidden in the landscape of Oak Hill in plain sight and frequented by a devout group of fitness folks.
When I could no longer tolerate the big box gyms, the crowds that flock to them and the bad behaviors that have cropped up over time, I finally made the move to this gym.
Sure it’s smaller, sure it doesn’t have daycare, saunas, pools, giant changing rooms but I consider all those things a plus. People who show up here show up to work out not sit at the sauna and pool all day.
The price point is higher than most gyms but not unreasonable. You get what you pay for — mostly in peace and quiet and an overall more courteous gentler crowd.
There is a good mix of equipment that can handle a mix of folks who just want fitness, folks who are into bodybuilding and powerlifters.
For the most part all three groups exist in peace. Perhaps the general fitness folks may at times be a little intimidated by some of the louder harder workouts of the powerlifters. But this can be mitigated by changing the time you go. I get overstimulated by such noises so I try to avoid those folks if I can. ( I can be a gentle flower lol)
Gender balance. This gym has a very healthy gender balance. Luckily this crowd is not there to find suitors, they are there to work out so no fake eyelashes or clown makeup nor guys just dragging their wings along the ground like turkeys in heat. Please respect this dynamic and don’t come here to hit on people.
Like most gyms the peak time is 5-7 week days except it’s mostly Monday to Wednesday that’s somewhat busy during rush hour. But nothing like the big box gyms. It’s busy but not impossible to get a workout in like other gyms.
Folks are not aggressive with each other, they are kind when they approach you for working in etc. I take a long time at some machines people should be upset but there is no upset, only kindness.
They are swapping out some of the equipment and its changes for the better — mind you what’s there is already plenty.
This is a small gym floor, I believe one of their smallest. They are opening a huge one in round rock in fact!
The hours are great. Parking is plenty however not endless, sometimes you will have to hunt a little.
The gym is clean, bathrooms is clean but could be better. I am just being honest. It’s just fine. I have been spoiled by Lifetime and EOS.
There is a regular crowd that’s been there a long time and they sometimes do exert a little bit of ownership and territorial behavior but they are mostly harmless, they could use the challenge of new faces, and they are perfectly able to adapt and accept newcomers. So don’t be intimidated. It’s all teddy bears in there.
The staff also is amazingly friendly and attentive and keep the place sharp and on top shape and help members.
I highly recommend you get a week pass and...
Read moreSince I moved to Texas 2 years ago, I have spent dozens of hours and thousands of dollars trying to find a gym that takes fitness as seriously as I do. As a previous D1 Athlete, USAPL Record Holder, and Nationally Qualified Body Builder, I have very very high expectations of what I want from a gym. I had been disappointed with all my experiences until I stumbled upon Los. The first day I walked in the door, I was greeted by one of the owners, Tim, and had a delightful conversation over my Gen I GNC Raw duffle bag. At that moment, I knew I was in the right place. The gym itself has almost everything I could ask for equipment wise, and when I mentioned a couple of pieces I wish they had, the owners immediately ordered them!!! Talk about mind blown, and about people who really care about creating the right atmosphere for their clientele. Matt, the other owner, is probably one of the most charismatic people I have ever met. He is like everyones personal hype man the minute they walk through the door. If someone is going for a PR, he is there cheering them on and celebrating when they get it. These guys have successfully turned their gym into a safe haven for people who are serious about lifting. The only thing I could possibly complain about would be some of the "Influencers" who feel the need to set up a small production to record themselves "training" as they like to call it... SMH. Most of them are fine, and try not to disturb anyone else while doing their thing, which I can respect, but I had one issue with a girl named Bianca. I have never met someone so full of themselves, and condescending to everyone around them. She acted like she owned the place and was better than everyone in it, even though "mediocre at best" might be too graceful in describing her. I do have to credit the owners though, as I vocalized my irritations with her, and they defended her right to be there, creating content for her business. They are inclusive of everyone and support the success of all of their customers, as long as it isn't creating any real problems for the other members. Moral of this long story, Matt and Tim are fabulous business owners, and their amazing gym is the product of two people who really care about what they do, and the people they serve.... I would recommend this gym to...
Read moreGorgeous gym. So much equipment you will usually not have to wait. It's definitely geared more toward lifting but not one specific type which is nice. If you're a powerlifter, they got you. If youre casual bodybuilder, good too. Several sets of dumbbells that go very heavy (at least 4 full sets I think?) and my favorite, mutt bars! Theyre also not allergic to cardio like a lot of lifter type gyms are, there's still quite a few treadmills to use. I'm giving 5 stars because I know businesses live or die by reviews, but the locker room needs attention. It feels gross and often smells really bad. They have a huge selection of merch and a little sitting area if you want to eat or work on your laptop or get some coffee or whatever. The price for membership is steep - but I'm willing to pay this for a gym that's less crowded and has tons of equipment. You'll...
