On September 24, 2025, I underwent a revision of a total left hip prosthesis because of two episodes of hip dislocation. My original surgery was June 2, 2025 at HCA Florida Largo Hospital. My revision surgery went well. Three days later I was transferred to HCA Florida Largo West for continued hospital care and especially occupational and physical therapy. Mo was my assigned physical therapist director and Dylan provided all my various treatments over the five days with the sessions each day lasting 80-90 minutes.Dylan was excellent at explaining all the individual purposes of each exercise and safety precautions regarding prevention of hip dislocation. Understanding the anatomical features of the exercises to avoid potential hip dislocation was very comforting to me and gave me confidence to performing them after discharge at my home.MO was always present with the supervision of the therapy and I was appreciative of how knowledgeable they were and how they carefully they were in allowing me rest periods between each exercises. Dylan of course told me that he was completing his doctorate soon and I feel he will be an excellent physical therapist. He has a very nice personality and was also very careful about making sure I was doing each exercise properly avoiding hip dislocation possibilities.
Charles was my occupational therapist and had been with Pauline with my first hip operation in June. He was always showing me the doās and donātās of dressing ,showering, putting on my shoes, and bending down because of my recurrent dislocations of the left hip.He also gave me the proper instruments for doing my everyday living without risking dislocation.
In summary, I was so happy that Dr Crank, my orthopedic surgeon, transferred me to HCA Florida Largo West Hospital because I knew I would get outstanding , five star and compassionate therapy. I would also be remiss not to mention the outstanding nursing care I received throughout my stay, helping me with my eye therapy for my corneal ulcer, my diet and management of my bowel and urinary function which was important because my hip surgery symptoms and their effect on my overall recovery. My nurse call button was always promptly answered. I should mention that the hospital doctors managed my medical problems including my labile hypertension, anemia and antibiotic therapy very...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was threatened by a male nurse, that he'd have me moved to downstairs. It was an awful experience. He was angry because he told me it is 245 I need to be in bed not playing cards. I reminded him that's one reason I'm here. He was doing the every 15 minutes so he was aware that I did not fallow his comment. I asked for coffee, it's decaf, but ok. At 6 am, I went to the nurses station and asked for coffee. Another nurse seemed like she was going to give me some, when he said no. I became upset, I said, " it's 6 in the morning, lots of people are having coffee at this time." He said I didn't sleep I couldn't have it. "I said it's decafe. " He said I will send you down stairs. I walked away as he was threatening me, I felt like nothing would help so I walked away. As I'm going down the hall to my room, he yelled something about my nasty attitude. I was terrified, he has the authority to do it. I then became hysterical because I didn't want to go. Then I was afraid if I resisted, I'd look irrational and possibly be drugged and taken. It was awful. Every sound coming near my door, I freaked out, I thought it was someone coming for me. How scary it was. When the next shift came, I was A panic . When they took my vitals, my pulse was 145. He Cornel, wanted to know what was going on. I broke down and told him I was being sent down stairs. He said no, he won't let it happen. He said, you are a good patient. I'm so thankful for him. He tried to assure me I was safe. I was still near or maybe still in hysteric. He went and got nurse Debbie. She assured me that I was safe. Nothing was going to happen, that I was safe. As hard as they tried to calm me the more I thought I'd be sent there. Maybe if even have meds injected. I was so scared. Every sound coming down the hall, I was sure it was them coming for me. Cornel kept an eye on me assuring me he was there and nothing would happen. It took must of the morning for me to calm down. Every time I seen a stranger in uniform I knew they were coming for me. It was the most horrific time. I absolutely can not believe it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI see the last review was 2.9. Well just let me add to this deplorable rating. If I could give this Hospital a negative rating? I gladly do so. My partner is post open heart surgery and Aortic valve replacement of 2 years ago. We were call back emergently because his chemical stress test showed failure of one of the grafts. Well this so called emergent cath procedure took over two weeks to schedule because of the continuous problems we had with the incompetent office staff. When I complained to the office manager, her reply to me was that their office does have challenges. Unacceptable! Then when the cath procedure was completed and he was returned to recovery. His assigned nurse checks him in and she never once returned to our bedside in the 3 hours we were there, despite heart alarms reading 48. This patient was on blood thinners and was a groin entry. Was this site ever checked for bleeding ? Not once! Then they were getting additional patients and she told some male RN to give us our discharge paperwork and get packing they needed our bedspace. I said we have never yet seen a Dr to discuss the results. I was told he left for the day and they would have to find his assistant. He finally shows up and tells us it's no big deal the cath failed and not worry about it! What? Seriously! Then I looked at the discharge medication list after we had just given them an updated list prior to surgery. Wrong medications found. The response was it must be a computer cliche. Unacceptable! I made a formal complaint to the nursing supervisor as well as a written notice to the vice president of nursing. I received a call from her and she appeared not to believe my story. No apologies or compensation for this horrible care. We have fired the cardiologist and Largo medical HCA. I wouldn't take a love one there even if they were in full cardiac arrest and you shouldn't either....
