If you go to Mt Tam, this is a must stop area. The 360 view from the top is incredible and the parking is easy since it's not free ($8 honor system). You can see San Francisco miles away and rolling hills in the distance. The drive up on Panoramic Highway is also worth it, though keep in mind the turns are very steep and local drivers will want to speed past you, so do make use of the shoulder lanes where others can pass. It's also a short drive to Stinson beach, and fitting in a beach day with a view from East Peak is...

Must do hike in the Marin. Be there at sunrise for the spectacular views of the city of San Francisco. The gate does not open until 7a.m., so we did the hike from Mountain inn parking lot. Fern Creek Trail leading up to the East Peak is moderate path of difficulty.

Sun rises from behind the Mount Diablo which is picture perfect. The East peak summit has a fire watch station with cameras that scouts the surrounding...
