Roughlock falls is not the only waterfall you’ll find in Spearfish Canyon but it’s arguably the prettiest. Down the dirt road there’s parking right next to the walkway. Follow the flow of Spearfish Creak, taking time to stop at the many viewpoints of the first part of the falls. Continue dow ln the path past the steeper concrete walkway to the bottom. Wrap across the creek and hang a right, following it to the end. Here you’ll find the lower falls, with big bubble shaped mossy growths and crystal clear water trickling through and around them. Perfect for photo ops, and slow motion shots of the water. Brown Trout, brook trout and rainbow trout can be seen from the bridges and overlooks.

In the winter it’s a different kind of stunning.m, you just may have to walk down the dirt road or trail along the other side of the creek. Frozen Waterfalls are...

We started down Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway and stopped at Bridal Veil Falls, Spearfish Falls, and Roughlock Falls.

Roughlock Falls was our last stop. If you drive pass the trailhead parking lot and keep going down to the end, after you pass the “Roughlock Falls” sign, you will see a parking lot that will lead you closer to the falls.

It’s 1.5miles from the trailhead but this location only took us a total of 35mins with photos in between. Not difficult, just a few zig zags. We had youngest of 4 to 70s and we all made it. These falls are described as low cascading falls. It’s...

This falls is actually two falls, a higher fall that is easy to see from an elevated walkway, and another lower falls that is also easily accessible from a paved walkway that goes all the way down to a viewing platform. There are picnic tables and restrooms at the start of the trail adjacent to the parking area.

You can access the falls by driving down to the access point and parking area, or by parking at the lodge along the road and walking 1.5 miles along a well developed trail...
