This trailhead is easily accessible from the paved road, with a parking lot and toilets on site. The trailhesd parking area is aldo a popular spot for fishing & photo ops of the babbling brook.
The Savoy section is pt 1 of 3. It's just over 1 mile to the next segment. Now, some of my downsides may be a good thing for others, so I'll explain:
The trail is roughly 5ft wide and it's paved. The ground is level with very little change in elevation. It makes it extremely easy to navigate, despite having a rating of "moderate" on trail advisements. I'd say this trail is easy & accessible.
The above may be appealing to many, but when we set out on a moderate hike, we were prepared to experience some form of challenge- there was none. The trail also runs along the paved road, with the creek running between the trail & road.
This segment ends at the lodge. From there you can continue on to a set of falls, cross the road to the 76 trail (this one's a climb), or cross over towards the restaurant for a second set of falls. The falls are lovely and worth the stop.
In retrospect, we would have parked by the lodge to complete both falls and 76 trail- unless we were only up for a leisurely stroll.
Pictures attached include all 3 segments but NOT the 76 trail, which...
Read moreAwesome Trail! Short 1 mile trail each way from the trailhead along Little Spearfish Creek. Trail is packed dirt and a few rocks and is very well maintained. There are several areas where you can walk down to the water and look at the small fish or feel how cold this clear water is. The trail is well travelled and can only imagine very early and late evening trips will be ideal if you desire a few less trail-goers. The scenery along the entire route is breathtaking! The trail ends at the waterfalls where you can observe from the base and then hike up a sidewalk to several observation points from the source. At the waterfalls is a nice picnic area with tables and restrooms. Anyone not wanting to hike the trail can drive up to the waterfall on a dirt road on the other side...
Read moreThis was beautiful! The hike down to the bottom wasn't too difficult as the pathways were paved. There were several different viewing areas, so you can still see the waterfall from above if you have limited mobility and can't trek to the bottom of the falls. There weren't many directional signs and the ones that they had were a bit confusing, but we followed the sounds of splashing water and were able to find the falls easily enough! The temperature drop down by the falls is notable as it felt very comfortable on a hot day. There were at least two small restroom stalls at the top of the falls. They weren't anything fancy, but something one might expect while out hiking along popular trails.
We will definitely go back again if we are ever...
