I have been taking my grandchildren to the Smallwood's Harvest for the last 6-7 years, several times a year. I would purchase an annual family pass. During our visit, always visited the petting farm, purchased ice cream (when the shop was in operation), purchased popcorn, candy, and various fruits, and the children bounced in the bounce house and played in the ball pit when available, rode the cow train every time. My grandchildren love going there. My disappointing feed back is based on several unfriendly encounters towards my grandchildren from one of the proprietors. My believe his name is Mike, he is almost always there.
To mention a couple. On one visit, the children saw a cat walking on top of the plumb fruit cart. They were excited when they saw the cat and started running towards it. Before they even reached the cart, the proprietor called out "don't touch the cat." I replied that they were not touching the cat, just looking at it. His action was not appreciated and, my thought is, a cat should not be walking all over the fruit. After seeing this, I have not purchased fruit from Smallwoods, it is unsanitary.
The last time we visited Smallwoods, about three weeks ago, after the children fed the animals the six bags of feed I purchased from inside the store, I tried to purchase more feed from the food dispenser located strategically around the animal petting compound. I inserted a coin in one of the dispensers and it would not dispense the feed. I tapped it several times to no prevail. Then I tried another dispenser, this time the dispenser took the coin but would not dispense the feed, again. I walked up to Mike to let him know this. Less than in a friendly voice, he said to just go into the store and purchase the feed as the dispensers are out of order. I replied if they are not working, take them out. He hurriedly walked over to the dispenser while saying what he was going to do, took one of the dispensers and placed it in the shed where the bunnies are located. He continued to say the dispenser were broken because people hit them. I replied it was not my doing they are broken and not to take it out on me. He apologized in an unfriendly manner and said, here, while pulling out the quarter from his pocket to return it to me. For an establishment that is geared around children, they are not friendly towards them. Going forward, I will find an alternate place that is more friendly towards...
Read moreTook my kids here and left feeling disgusted and in shock. The animals were starving with no feed in their pens. The mother goat with two small babies had no straw in their âhouseâ and were surrounded by mud. The other goats fought each other for the tiny amount of feed we purchased to give the animals. The pens have to be kept maintained DAILY! The âhand washing stationâ had no soap (not even any hand sanitizer) and the water was kept in an Igloo sports water jug. Inside the store, it smelled musty. The bathroom had no ventilation, no seat covers and looked like it hadnât been dusted or cleaned in a few days. Looked around the store for a bit, heard other customers ringing a bell for service. There was a sign that said the employees are throughout the store working on projects. đ€š I did not see any employees working in the store. Went to the register to purchase some apple butter. Not a single employee in sight. Had to ring the bell, about a minute later a young guy comes out (looking like he just rolled out of bed) and proceeded to help us. Not a smile or a how are you today? I will be back sometime to see if things have improved. I am still appalled at the conditions of the...
Read moreI want to give them a 5 star but after the way I was treated on the phone I canât. I called about two weeks ago to order pickles to be mailed to me. The man asked me to call back in two days do to the fact that he is short on help that day. No problem I understood , well this last Monday I called and spoke to a sales Manager he took my order with no problem and said he would call me back with the total including shipping. Today is Wed and no word. So I called back to inquire about my order. So a older gentleman scolded me saying they donât mail out, and went on about how he works from 4 am till after 8 pm and doesnât have time to pack my pickles and drive them to be mailed. He went on that he has no time to take the garbage out. I was speechless. Than I noticed I was talking to a younger boy. The older guy just gave the boy the phone to deal with me without saying anything. The young man didnât know what to say. So I just asked him to have the owner call me back. Iâm not sure I will hear from them. So I went on line ground them 1/2 the price and they...
