My Friends Closet Thrift Shop — Local services in Lena

I absolutely love this place. I'm an out of towner who regularly works in the mid-Stephenson County area near or in Lena so I try to stop in regularly.

First, they accept donations. Check with them for their guidelines. Second, they're REALLY budget priced, AND every day of the week there are additional half-off and 25 cent priced color tags.

What do they have? Always clothes of course and always clean, seasonal, and even holiday themed! Gently used shoes and boots, linens, nicnacs, craft supplies, kitchenware, jewelry, lots of mags and books for children and grownups, and small furniture and home accessories.

I personally head to the hardware area. Then I shop for something new for the grandkids to play with when they visit. I've purchased lamps, dishes, antiques, bedding, pet items, games, art supplies, clothes, vacuum cleaner bags, framed art, replacement globes, extension cords, shelving, clothes irons, holiday wrappings and decor,...

This is the type of store you need to frequent every few weeks, because many people shop here for bargains and it looks like it gets picked over. Like most thrift shops, it is hit or miss. Unfortunately, I live in Chicago, so the chance of that happening is slim to none. The last time i visited before my August 14 visit was in 2009! This time I found less, but the prices are right and they have an interesting selection of well organized merchandise. You definitely will not find high-end items or the latest fashions here - the shoes and clothing seem to be a little long in the tooth. When some people think of thrift stores, they cringe and conjure images of germ ridden knick knacks and stained ill-fitting jeans. The truth is, thrift stores often have garments and accessories that are in excellent condition.
