Edit to initial review: I left this review 8 months ago but came today to edit it and lower my review by one star. With one exception (good staff member among the "trash") I would give this facility a negative rating) I wish that I/we had options, other places to go as I would NOT return here. I have been back many times since leaving the original review and have had even worse experience(s). Without going into detail or ranting about what happened during each visit, I will just say the above (lowering by one star/would leave negative rating) and that I believe that it is (unfortunately) true that (it appears as though) people who work for government entities are often NOT working like people employed by private companies. It is a shame that we pay such high taxes in this area and receive such inadequate services (NOT always, but often) from such uncaring people who are "comfortable" in their jobs. It is sad that a small percentage of people give the good people a bad reputation. Suffice it to say that I HATE having to go here almost every time that I find that I have no choice but to "Pay up" and "Put up" with the way things are done there.
Oh, and parting shot (put forth as a question and observation). Don't you just hate having to put a tarp over (or pay a $10 fine) a load that you KNOW is not going to blow out/end up on the road (such as stone, branches, items tied down), but yet as you follow a garbage truck to the landfill you observe the stream of paper/trash that they leave behind? Unfathomable.
Below is my original review: (with a couple of minor tweaks to reflect the above edited version)
I agree (with others) that it is (mostly) clean and organized. I also agree that it IS EXPENSIVE. I CANNOT agree that most everyone that I've interacted with there is professional or friendly. I ABSOLUTELY cannot figure out why they don't have longer hours and stay open on the weekends. I moved here from another state (Bible belt state) where they did just that as they knew/know that most people work weekdays. Having access to the landfill on Saturday (full day) AND Sunday is important. Closing at Midday on Saturday is unfathomable. Renting a trailer and having it sitting/filled half of Saturday and ALL of Sunday because the landfill is not open adds to the expense. Where I lived before moving here, the landfills were open Saturdays and Sunday after church till late afternoon. They were also free for most items and inexpensive for others. This led to much lower incidence of (some) people leaving trash where it didn't belong as well (not to say that have knowledge of that happening here, but that was the logic there). (Makes me wonder how many tires, junk computers/electronics, or appliances have been pulled out of the Fox river due to the cost of disposal at the landfill).
It really frustrates me when I can't make it to the landfill before they close on Saturday, that I can NEVER go there on Sunday, and when I have to let a trailer sit, filled/waiting for the landfill to open on Monday! Also frustrating is the cost for most loads (especially the $20 minimum) and the attitude of most people whom I've encountered there.
Tons of room for "attitude adjustments" and...
Read moreThe people that work there are very friendly and professional. Always right there when unloading in case I have a question and they are always willing to lend a hand if needed.
The new layout for the drop off area is very nice. The bins are well-marked and it's esy to pull in and unload even when someone is at the next bin.
My only negative is about the hours of operation. NOT very convenient for those of us who have a normal work schedule at all. Then, it is only open for a few hours on Saturday. Seems like maybe it is on purpose for whatever reason as it obvious that most people are not able to use the facility during the posted times....
