My short answer advice: If you can't buy a 3000 bed with a warranty, buy online - Serta.com will take returns on all their mattress sales.
My long answer explanation: I try to buy local whenever I can. After many years without a real bed, I decided it was time and I shopped at Comfort Center. After much time spent laying on mattresses, and talking to the sales people (I am a middle aged, side sleeper I told them all) I bought a 500 dollar Serta mattress. I took it home and immediately it hurt my shoulders. I kept at it for a couple weeks and when it didn't get better, I went into the store, talked to the manager, and told him my problem. He suggested jumping on it and breaking it in. So I did. It got a little better, but still I woke up aching in my shoulders and upper back.
I knew it was a non-refundable mattress when I bought it (that's why it's two stars instead of one - lesson learned), but I had been sleeping on an air mattress for 2.5 years - how could this bed not be an improvement? I went back in. The manager said he would work with me, and I felt instantly relieved. He said he would give me 200 dollars towards an upgrade. As I laid on the upgrades, I could still feel pressure on my shoulders, so I went home to consider my options. I tried two different mattress pads on the bed I bought and neither helped.
I went back to the store and said I was not comfortable buying up, because there was still no warranty and I could be throwing good money after bad. I said I would take a 250 dollar loss. The manager said no - think of it from my perspective he said. He said he could only sell the mattress for 100 dollars.
Which makes me wonder about the value of the 500$ bed which I bought 30 days before that was now only worth 100$??
He said he is a small business.
I understand that, that is why I shopped there and countered with my story: I am a local school teacher in a high stress, low pay job and I need my sleep more than anything to do my work and serve these children and this community.
And he wouldn't budge. Think of it from my perspective he said again.
I said I am. I am eating 250$, and going back to an air mattress, you are keeping that 250$ and selling the mattress for 100$ - that leaves your loss at 150 dollars - and with mark up you are probably only losing 50-100 dollars. I will leave this business satisfied and tell people you worked with me and come back in the future for other furniture needs.
He said no!
When I returned home, I looked up what the mark up was for a Serta mattress on the internet and multiple sites said it was 40-50 percent. Wow! So from his perspective, he would not have lost anything. At that time I also saw time that Serta.com will let you return mattresses with no fuss. That is when I decided to write this review.
I wanted to shop local, and I wanted to work it out. I was willing to take a 50% loss, and keep a good relationship but there was no help or understanding. I am disappointed with the Serta mattress and with the service from...
Read moreWe recently visited Comfort Center Alanson as we were considering a new couch but hadn’t yet made the decision to pull that trigger. The sales person was fantastic, and even though we did not elect to make a purchase that day, he gifted our daughter a small Serta sheep.
This sheep goes everywhere. Quickly becoming her favorite toy, we now listen to Serta Sheep commercials on repeat. The number one request for her Christmas gift is a Serta Perfect Sleeper. Did you know it solves five common sleep problems?
We can no longer go a day without a demand to visit a furniture store. She’ll spend hours (if allowed) testing all of the Serta mattresses and advising everyone to “feel that comfort!” Inevitably, this is what once again lead us to the Comfort Center’s door.
While Miss Bo Peep wrangled Serta sheep and tested every mattress in the building, my husband and I were able to select a new Best loveseat (with many interruptions and demands for us to test out the Serta mattresses).
Delivery was scheduled for the following weekend. The guys making the delivery did a great job removing the old reclining sofa despite awkward conditions, and per my request prior to delivery, provided a second sheep.
As Christmas is coming, I see an uptick in the demands to visit furniture stores imminently in my future. I’m advised on a daily basis by Bo Peep that she requires a new Serta Mattresses so she’ll “Never have to count...
Read moreDon't buy a bed from this place! The owner Steve is a scam artist. I bought a bed from him two years ago. The bed sunk in more than two inches in less than two years. He warrantied it for us. That was the only good thing about this transaction. He had two iseries beds on his floor. The hardest and softest of the series. I didn't know there was an intermediate bed that wasn't on the floor and he never told me about it when I asked him if he had anything a little softer than the firm mattress. He told me that that was it. He lied. So I bought the firm mattress without knowing my options. I paid an extra $200 for the bed plus $50 shipping fee. The iseries bed line has a 120day trial period. I called him and told him that I would like to exchange the firm mattress out with the medium grade. He told me it would now cost me the difference in cost for the mattress and another $85 shipping fee. When I asked him why the shipping was more this time he told me "its because I'm sick of coming out to your house". What!? You're a business and I'm willing to pay the difference but you're telling me that you don't want my business because you don't feel like it? Buyers beware. This place is a scam! I'm contacting serta and letting them...
