Normally, under most circumstances, I would give Las Po. five stars. The campus is safe and welcoming to all. The teachers and the curriculum are top notch, especially for transfer students. The students are serious. The Express/Naked newspaper & magazine is rated as one of the best college newspapers in the nation. The library and greenhouse are state of the art. The athletics department is perfect for training. And, the bus always runs on time and goes straight to the BART.
However, the reason for the missing two stars is for something that recently happened
For those of you who don't know, and without the opinion of the students, teachers, or community at large, our adorable little bookstore was shut down in the Fall of 2024. A national hostile takeover was done by the Follet/eFollet company. Their joint operations are conducted in Texas and Arkansas...two book-banning, former slave states (Red), I might add.
This semester, sadly, I dropped a class. So, I returned a book that I ordered online. It was the worst service on the planet. Originally, I ordered, and paid, for the book for an overnight delivery that took 5 business day. Then, it took over a month for the return process. And, I was never fully re-emburssed.
After that fiasco, I go to the administration office to make a complaint about the situation. The male receptionist was rude, dismissive, and confrontational. I asked to see someone else, because obviously, if this incident happened to me, it will happen to someone else. That person didn't care. I said, "If no one feels like having a real bookstore, then I'll start one as a vendor, so tell me who to contact for the bid." The third person gave me a number and email to contact to file the report. She said, obscurely, that the bid will be posted in the newspaper. But, she presented me with a fake number and the email bounced back.
Someone at Las Po. is receiving a "kick back" for this "no-bid contract" shenanigans with Follet/eFollet.
I doubt that the administration will publish the date in any media outlet, since they are already in bed with Follet/eFollet and they refuse to give a direct question to a member of the public (me). If they do mention the date, it will be during the spring/summer break when no one is watching.👀
So, students...
Get your books from somewhere else than Follet/eFollet. Find out the name/title of your book for call and order it from a local bookstore or Half Price Books, if you have to. At least, that place is from Austin, TX where there are universities and they know how to read.
And, if there is a small local bookstore or one that is thinking about becoming one...there is an abandoned building on the Las Positas Campus that is vacant and you can make something out of it and keep our California state tax dollars local.
Because Fillet/eFollet is a lazy, out-of-state "freeloading" company that gives bad service and picks up a "blank check"-"meal-ticket" from our hard working Blue State dollars.
Well honey, that's...
Read moreLas Positas College is what real education looks like: student-focused, grounded, and results-driven. It’s a place where students are treated with respect, not condescension. Professors actually teach, listen, and guide. The environment supports critical thinking and personal growth—not empty competition. You don’t have to pretend to be someone else to succeed here. Sharp minds thrive, and every student is given the space to rise.
Now compare that to UC Davis—a school that spends more energy on public image than on meaningful academic development. It presents itself as elite, but behind the polished branding is a system that often rewards performance over substance. Real thinkers—those who question, innovate, or challenge norms—may find themselves pushed aside. The culture often favors conformity and curated success over genuine intellectual progress.
At Las Positas, you get value, direction, and authenticity. You leave stronger, smarter, and more ready for what comes next—without the burden of inflated tuition or ego. At UC Davis, too many students end up chasing titles and rankings in an environment that looks impressive on paper but feels hollow in reality.
If you're serious about your future and want a college that truly invests in you—Las Positas College delivers. No marketing spin. No empty prestige. Just real...
Read moreI attended Las Positas College in my younger years when Las Positas was just opening it's doors and I attended again and received my A.A. Degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences with an emphasis in Social Science in 2017. I was also Editor in Chief of the Las Positas College Literary Anthology. At all times, with every instructor I had and every Las Positas employee I was treated with respect and caring. The teaching staff are one of a kind, helpful beyond the call of duty, encouraging, they understand the strengths and weaknesses of students and give them the direction and guidance they need to succeed. The campus is clean, the students are friendly. It's a wonderful learning environment conducive to the learning experience as a whole. The cafeteria serves great food. I have attended other colleges and Las Positas College is by far the better choice. I am proud to be an LPC graduate and I reccomend it highly. If you want to attend a school where student success is of the utmost importance and you would like to enjoy your learning experience and grow in many ways LPC should be your...
