Grooves Unlimited Dance Studio — Local services in Livingston

I am so impressed with Grooves. The faculty and staff go above and beyond. This is our first year at Grooves and they made my daughter feel so welcomed. They make us feel like family but are still very professional.

DANCE INSTRUCTION: Though not a competitive studio, the level of instruction and technique is on par with competitive studios. In fact, I would say they surpass competitive studios because they don't just teach kids choreography, but how to love dance all aspects of dance. They teach other skills that would be useful for kids who want to dance professionally -- they teach and encourage kids to choreograph their own dances; they teach kids how to put together music videos for auditions; they also teach leadership skills by providing student teacher assistant opportunities.

I have also taken a few of their adult hip hop classes. It is so difficult to find adult classes and even more so to find a really fun one that is truly hip hop dance techniques, not just a jazzercise class posing as a dance class. The class caters to all levels - from true beginners to more experienced dancers.

PROFESSIONALISM: Having come from other studios, we were immediately impressed with the level of professionalism displayed at the studio. Don't be fooled by the friendly and warm atmosphere -- this studio is run by professionals. Their communications are clear and timely. They anticipate questions and address them in their emails but are still available for further questions.

They also put us at ease with next season and all the unknowns that COVID brings. They put together contingency plans for every possible situation so we didn't need to worry about registering for next season.

We became even more impressed when COVID quarantine hit. The studio shifted gears and moved their entire curriculum online in such a short amount of time. They put together a virtual studio where kids continued their classes through live learning. They also had pre-recorded videos for kids to view "on demand". The videos and sounds they put together were professionally done and edited. In addition to their usual classes, they arranged special fun classes that were open to everyone- like the tik tok challenge, dance parties, scavenger hunts, etc. This was key to my kid not getting burnt out from all the virtual dance classes she was taking.

The MOST impressive thing the studio did was the virtual "recital." My kid attends different studios and the other studios just had the kids dance on zoom while we watched. Grooves set themselves apart by having all the students send videos of themselves and editing them into cohesive "music videos." They then held a viewing party online for families to watch. recital" was interactive and involved using items that were sent to each student in envelopes marked "Do not open until the viewing party." That was a really cute touch that gave my kid a surprise to look forward to!

As you can tell by my lengthy review, we are so glad to have joined the Grooves family. I would (and do) recommend this studio to anyone (kids & adults) who wants to focus on hip hop or tap dance styles. Grooves Unlimited is a very professional and well organized operation! My son joined Grooves Dance Studio last year after dancing for one year at another studio. His dancing skills have grown tremendously! He was initially quite concerned about being the only boy dancer in class but Grooves is very diverse studio with many dancers from various ages, genders and backgrounds! And, Hillary and Shani rose to the challenge this past Spring to ensure the communications and continuity of dance continued when the pandemic set in. I was very impressed with their creativity and dedication to offer a virtual, interactive recital - along with detailed, professional dance videos of each class which were meticulously cut/edited with precision so we could all appreciate the hard work of the teachers and dancers.
