I may be biased, having taught for two years in the Stephen Poorman College of Business, Information Systems and Human Services at Lock Haven University, but in my opinion LHU is a good value—especially for local students who want to commute. All my colleagues during my time there were focused on helping students succeed, both in the classroom and after graduation. While a small school like LHU can't offer the wide selection of courses available at a school like, e.g., Penn State, one advantage of a small school is smaller classes and more contact with the professor (as opposed to a TA). From what I observed, LHU also seems to emphasize teaching by full-time faculty, using adjunct instructors only to round out course offerings (rather than shoulder the load of introductory courses, as at some other schools). My one caveat is that, on average, LHU is not an elite school that attracts the best-prepared students. This means that you may not be pushed as much as you should to excel, and you'll need to take more responsibility for your learning. (Hint: my colleagues were in their offices for 5+ hours every week specifically to meet with students. Most students don't take advantage of that!) That said, I was fortunate to teach several really outstanding students during my time at LHU, and you'll be able to find a good study group to work with if you...
Read moreThis review is specifically for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate program.
First off, I was lied to and informed that the program could be completed within 2 years. However, because THEY ONLY HAVE TWO professors running the ENTIRE program, they couldn't do it in less than 3 years. Even then, that's not terrible. However, the thing I could not get over was how much of an idiot my advisor and one (of two) professor was. I was treated like a child and I did not learn a thing. I was barely trying because I was so frustrated, and I still had all As in the 4 courses I was taking. The program is a joke, and if you truly want to be a counselor I highly suggest going somewhere else (as I have) so you can actually learn.
I have never given a review to a college before but, I hated this program so...
