We decided to book one large cabin instead of multiple cabins through Hocking Hills Lodge like last year. Big mistake. We are a troop of 20 which Beth had assured me the cabin, Flying the Coop, could handle. We have camped many times so we did. We had 6 adults and 14 7-10 yr olds using their money that THEY earned themselves through cookie sales.
There were not enough dishes for 20 people or towels and I had asked that specifically. The house was not the cleanest either. The sleeper sofa was broken. The pictures on the website had to of been taken when the rental was newer given the condition of the furniture now and what’s no longer there. The red couch has tears in the leather, most of the chairs on the outside patios and decks are so worn down they’ll rip if you sit on them, they stink, or you’ll sit directly on the support bar. The pool liner that’s mentioned so much is bunched up and looks like it’s going to fall down. The pool deck is so badly peeling when you walked it came off on your foot. There were also exposed nails. The girls were so excited about using the hot tub. However, once we got there a new set of rules next to the hot tub said no one under 10 could use it. This is not mentioned anywhere nor did Beth mention this on the phone.
The biggest problem of all started day 2 at 2:00. The water stopped working. We called no answer. We drove to the office no one was there. We found someone weedwacking. He got ahold of someone who finally called us. They told us they’d call us back. HOURS later we call back asking what’s going on because we have 20 people and might need to leave as there’s NO water. They bring us 6 gallons of water for 20 people!! We tell them that’s not even enough to even flush the toilets in the 3 separate bathroom for 20 people. We have to explain to the girls that they now have to do 3-4 pees in the toilet then call an adult so we can pour the water in to the back to flush. Each flush took 1-2 gal. each. A solid was 2-3 gals. We ended up having to fill the gallon jugs with pool water all through the night to flush toilets because we didn’t have enough water! We luckily had paper plates and cups and bottled water that we had brought and ourselves. By time we checked out at 10:30 we still didn’t have water. They also never supplied us with anymore than those 6 gallons everything was on us. The reason the water ran out: the well ran out of water was because there was a crack in the pool filter so they decided to refill the pool using the remaining water in the well. We know this because one of the adults was on the deck and heard the conversation. When we asked to be compensated for a full day or at least partial day since it was from check in time to check out time she told us it wasn’t their fault. It absolutely was! It’s their well. The well water smelled strongly of sulfur the very first day, they should know the level of the well especially before filling up a pool. This affected the cabin next to us too. They let them check in without even telling them. We told them. They were driving 20mins to Walmart just to use the bathroom because no one told them anything! We paid $1,858 and asked to be reimbursed at least $350 for everything since we had to go buy everything and the disgusting task of refilling jugs at the pool and flushing urine. She offered us a slap in the face of $50. I can’t believe she has the audacity to make us go through all of this then not even compensate some of the girls money back to them for having to put up with pure hell for the last day that we were there. Absolutely disgraceful. Will never go back. Highly recommend Hocking Hills...
Read moreI am writing this review as a warning to anyone wanting to rent from this company. While the accommodations may be lovely, you will be dealing with the worst management you can imagine. Beth Kelly is a condescending, unprofessional, dismissive, rude human being, and I do not recommend this company to anyone. (Nor do I recommend the property owners of these beautiful cabins to commit the management of their properties to Beth Kelly)
Our family has gathered for Thanksgiving for 2 years (Humble Peacock and Mountain Lodge) and have put almost $8,000 into the pockets of Cabins in Hocking, not including the $1,400 deposit for this year. We had planned to do the same this year, but because of family circumstances we had to cancel, giving 6 months advance notice. Brother #1 contacted Beth to let her know of this fact and inquired about how we should proceed with the refund, since the payments were made by separate individuals. Beth did not respond to any of his questions about refund, but immediately (without inquiring) sent a $1,400 refund check to my old address, in brother #2’s name - who lives on the opposite side of the state. We had moved a month prior, so the house was vacant. The owner may or may not have picked up or returned the check to sender. I was concerned about the situation, as obviously the check would not reach brother #2 nor be forwarded to me. Request was made to Beth to stop payment immediately at our expense, but she refused. She said I should have called her - and that she would write a new check when the old one was returned. (Mind you, brother #1 had contacted her about the refund and she ignored him. She did not inquire as to where the check should be sent.)
Beth is very good at one thing - blaming her customers for her own errors. Don’t expect her to take ANY responsibility whatsoever when you have issues, and don’t expect to be treated with the least bit of care, concern or basic courtesy. She will not do what you ask of her - she does what she wants, and will go to no extra measures whatsoever to make things right for her customers.
Since Beth refused to lift a finger to help our situation, our postmaster was contacted and was able to intercept the check in order to return to sender. After 3 inquiries as whether or not the check was received (My family deserved more than the one word responses she gave all along the way), and inquiring as to at what point this situation would be resolved, Beth responded by going on a tirade, and told me she would not be responding to any more of my emails.
It took SIX WEEKS to get a check that should have arrived in 2 days. Had the check been lost or stolen, (or had my father not called and left a message to call him) who knows how long it would have taken for Beth to take action. She ignored my brother #1’s original emails. She blatantly refused to respond to my emails. She never returned my 82 year old father’s phone calls. Never in my life have I been treated so rudely and unprofessionally as I was treated by Beth Kelley. Even though the lawyer I had contacted was not needed in the end, I will be sure to pass our experience on to everyone I know. - and I know many people who rent cabins in the Hocking area.
My family (There are almost 30 of us - parents, grandparents, great grandparents and kids) will NEVER again rent from Cabins in Hocking. Beth Kelly is a poor excuse for a manager, who has no business being in the business of hospitality services. My advice? Find another cabin company where they treat people like human beings. Cabins in Hocking does not deserve your patronage,...
Read moreLast minute getaway, called 3 hours before arrival and Beth had no idea we were coming. I’m the manager of a mega park (RV Resort) in Michigan. I understand all this and it was a wow that she didn’t check her reservations. Gave me wrong directions (no biggie) we arrive an hour and 15 minutes after the appropriate check in time. Beth and a man were in the cabin cleaning it.. when I walked on the porch no hellos or welcomes. That’s the first sign that this was a poorly ran operation as anyone in vacation rebatable would expect a friendly greeting. She had hours in advance that we were coming and blamed it on the cleaning girls calling off ( more to this further down) after driving all the way from Michigan I had to use the restroom and was met with a “you’ll have to give us a few” I couldn’t wait after 10 minutes. We’re talking the Dog and Butterfly cabin which is about 10 by 15ft. I had to tell them to forget what they were doing I had to go and they had ample time to get the cleaning done, since I had call hours before and she said on the phone “let me make sure it’s clean” What in those hours did they clean? The dish towels were used by previous guests and dirty. The blanket throw was wet and dirty and flipped over so nobody would notice. Keys to the cabin are promised to be in the counter, no keys and even when we asked for them the whole stay we never got the keys. I walked to her messy house/office and she barely cracked the doors as I handed her her towels and told her they grossed me out. No apologies. It was the next day at 2pm, the power went out, she barely opened the door in her Jammie’s. No apologies but suggested we drive 20 minutes into town to occupy our time while the power was out. No apologies. People from nearby cabins walked right into our “secluded” barely there fire pit. How rude. The pond was junk. The huge bad review about this was she had 4 hours to clean our cabin and even when we arrived late it still wasn’t ready. No lights outside to see the hot tub so you can’t use it at night. It was a joke for $500 for 2 weekday nights. The only thing I liked was going to Kroger to get crackers to feed the fish since their food fish tank feeder was empty. All watercraft was so dirty and filled with water we couldn’t enjoy. It’s poorly ran. ...
