WHITE TAIL RIDGE CABIN: Beautiful Cabin — Peaceful Stay with a Few Things to Know We had a great stay at this beautiful, peaceful cabin. It was clean, well-kept, and the air conditioning worked really well—which was a relief in the July heat. The setting is quiet and scenic, and it's a great place to relax. We traveled with 4 adults and two teenagers. The downstairs space with the games was fun for both the kids (and adults). We had consistent rain during our stay, so we didn’t have the chance to use the fire pit or hot tub, but both looked very inviting. The kitchen was stocked with a variety of cookware. If you plan to cook you will need to provide all food related items, including Salt & Pepper. The cupboards had some spices and a little bit of cooking oil. The proximity to Old Man’s Cave and other hiking areas was awesome. There is a wonderful little store called Grandma Faye’s that is a 5 minute drive. They have some pantry items, cute gifts, apparel, and hand scooped ice cream. A few things to be aware of: there are no closets in the bedrooms and some hooks for hanging towels but nothing for clothes, so finding spots to keep things organized was a bit of a challenge. The road leading to the cabin is very narrow and can get crowded with overflow parking from Old Man’s Cave, especially on weekends. One-way traffic was an issue for us on Saturday, so we recommend taking the north route when leaving the property for the day. Also, if there's heavy rain in the forecast, be prepared—during our stay we lost power twice due to storms, and on our departure day, all the nearby roads were flooded. We had to drive through some very high water to continue east to our next stop. (The power outages were widespread, not just our cabin.) Communication with the host cold have been better. The day we decided to leave the property early we notified the host but never heard back from them. We tried to let them know we couldn't start the dishwasher on checkout because the power was out.
Despite those things, we really enjoyed the cabin and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet retreat—just plan ahead if weather might...
Read moreWhile I will be unable to stay in a property owned by Hocking Lodging Company, it's not for lack of trying.
I coordinated a weekend getaway for a friend's Bachelor party at one of their properties this seemed like a good fit.
On AirBnB, a recent guest in May 2021 said: "The new Revive cabin was a great get away for our bachelor party. The space was clean and spacious as well as very comfortable. Plenty of outdoor space for games and bonfires". etcetc
I reached out on AirBnB, laid down the substantial deposit and answered the initial questions.
I called and left a message for the business and got a call back a few days later which was reasonable because I had booked over the weekend.
A call that began asking if the 10pm Quiet Time was a strict policy in this rural area on a weekend (which was not an issue), somehow morphed into the Owner becoming annoyed at a glib comment that fines are there in place in case accidents happen, which had apparently just happened for them.
I had assured the Owner that we would respect their rules but apparently refusing to commit to policing my friends was grounds to cancel the reservation.
If you intend to go here looking to have a good time, don't tell the Owner, or hope that the guests before you didn't piss them off.
Other than that, it looks great.
In response to the Owner's message: We indicated at every juncture and in every possible way that we would respect their rules, but again due to the actions of previous clients the Owner's responded in a rather unprofessional manner, as you can see below.
Consumers should know who they might have to interact with, and bitter lodging hosts that cancel plans for future tenants based on the actions of past tenants should be pointed...
Read moreWe stayed a weekend at the Tumbleweed Cabin. Over all it is a pretty cool little cabin.
There is no cell service with Verizon from the cabin but this was called out during booking. We were able to pick up cell service right down the road. There is no wifi which isn't a big deal but for our first time in Hocking Hills we had no idea where to go and there was no info in the cabin.
It is secluded in the woods back a long driveway so there is little traffic noise. The woods around the property were beautiful and peaceful. We took our pugs for a walk around the property and we all came back covered in ticks. I know it's not the hosts fault, just a heads up to be prepared.
The hot tub is generally nice but the light did not work. There is also a rope light and deck lights that look into the woods that did not work. The porch light did work so we were fine. The tub was over-chlorinated but that didn't deter us from enjoying it. The deck itself is nice and high up. It feels safe and sturdy. There is a bin outside for storage but it had a ton of stinkbugs in it.
On the inside, there were no cabinets to store our clothes. You can put suitcases and bags under the bed. The kitchen has pots and pans and there is some random silverware that looks like was left by past guests. The grill on the porch is nice!
It was pretty dusty and there were cobwebs. There were also dead stinkbugs on the kitchen counter. Some spots looked like it could have been black mold. I still left housekeeping $20.
I would recommend to the hosts either getting wifi or printing maps/directions to the sites and places to eat, get...
