We had a great stay. 100% will stay again. The place was clean and tidy when we got there and the hot tub was warmed up and ready to use. I read some reviews that there wasn't enough cookware/utensils/dishes, so we brought our own, but there were plenty. Lots of pots and pans, whole set of dishes and bowls, and plenty of utensils and cooking tools. The fridge and freezer were at appropriate temps too. There is A/C, which kept the cabin nice and cool. The surrounding grounds and deck are absolutely beautiful. You can't see any neighbors, but can hear them if they get too rowdy. Just two minutes to the falls/Old Mans Cave area and 10-15min to Cantwell cliffs, Logan, and the lake. There is a small general store close that has basic items, some food, and fresh ice cream.
The only problems we had were the mattress was terrible - super hard, and the burners on the left side of the stove didn't work. Also, not really a problem for us, but just be aware that the drive and small private road to get to the cabin are narrow, steep, and twisty gravel drives. We also brought our own water for drinking, but the cabin uses well water, which we didn't have a problem with for showers and cleaning. There is no cable tv or wifi and very poor (if at all) cell connection, but you're surrounded by natures beauty and that was kind of the point of the trip, so not a complaint, just a heads up for those of you who NEED those amenities.
We hope to stay here or in one of the other...
Read moreThis was my fourth stay in beautiful Hocking Hills. This cabin was adequate but fell short of what I have come to expect. Pre trip communication was impersonal and was merely a list of rules and fees without the warmth and hospitality of what other property managers provide. The cabin was difficult to find and the parking at Grant’s Escape was treacherous. Bring your all wheel drive and your confidence.
The cabin was newer and shows very nicely. I am glad I brought a throw blanket, one was not provided. The couch and bed with both uncomfortable and it was hard to get cozy in this cabin. The kitchen lacks lighting and has the lowest end appliances and minimal tools for preparing meals. The hot tub was warm and wonderful but they did not provide stairs to make entry and exit easy. The TV and movies provided were a nice touch but the audio was terrible. Overall they tried but they continually fell short of being a true luxury cabin for couples.
The worst parts by far were the very loud heater that they mistakenly mounted right outside the bedroom on the exterior wall. It rattled very loudly all night and day. And the water. It smelled so strongly of sulfur that I would not drink it. (Visit the old man’s cave country store, they are great and they sell bottled water and ice) and didn’t even want to shower in that cabin. Even the dishes we washed smelled of sulfur.
There are too many great options in Hocking Hills. We will not be back to this...
Read moreWe left early. I've never done that in my entire life and I'm super upset. We go to Mammoth Cave every year for our honeymoon but couldn't this year because of covid. This trip is yet another 2020 disaster for me. The bed was HORRIBLE. I got about 4 hours of extremely interrupted sleep. Any time my husband moved the bed creaked so bad it woke me up because it's an old spring matress. It's a poor quality mattress. The drive from the road to the property is a very steep gravel hill. Then from the bottom of the hill up to the cabin was another steep gravel hill. Hot tub was busted when we got there. There was a note that maintinence was aware and a part had to be ordered and then when I emailed upset about it they said I should have called maintinence. I was super disappointed in this place. Also note, if you go to Hocking Hills there is no cell service to the point that our GPS could not connect at all. We were provided with directions to the cabin but you need to get a physical map or screenshot a map on your phone before...
