I have purchased many bikes - road, mountain, cruiser - for my family of 5 over the years. Most have been from Bicycle Outfitters. I’m looking for e-bikes now and dropped in because they carry both brands I’m interested in and was hoping they could help me review what I think I want and compare models. They had 3 salespeople available and sent one over to help me. He pretty quickly started answering my questions a little aggressively. I tempered my questions to defer to his expertise - it didn’t help. I asked about sizing and if they had a step through model available in my size. He said a hard no, then noticed that there was one 2 bikes over from the one in front of us. They had a black leather case on the back carrier which looked like a seat and surprised me because that’s not a thing for the bikes I’m looking at. I asked if it was a seat and he launched into an aggressive lecture, saying that I would invalidate any warranty if I put a seat on the back. I pointed out again that the bag looked like a seat, thinking that they might change the way they display the case. It finally registered that I was working too hard to get through a helpful conversation with him. I told him that he was being very aggressive and that I was leaving. As many bicycle enthusiasts already know, certain bikes are extremely hard to find and sometimes you have to wait several months to over a year to get a bike. A mishap occurred with my order at another bicycle shop. I was distraught but determined to find the bike for my husband. As God would have it, I randomly called this shop to see if they had the bike and they did! Not only did they have the actual model of the bike, they also had it in the actual color that we really wanted it in. Upon hearing my story, the manager and the other bike shop quickly worked out something together to mend my broken heart. No, seriously! This bicycle was a big deal for me. They honestly went above and beyond to make sure I was one happy customer. And that they did. A huge thank you again!
Aside from the getting the bicycle into my hands, I got to know the David (The manager) more. He shared some great stories about how he got into bicycling and other great stories.
