There are so few bowling alleys in business these days. You often just have to take the good with the bad because the alley you are going to is the only one within acceptable driving distance. The San Fernando valley has quite a few good bowling alleys though and Winnetka Bowl is one of the good ones. No bowling alley is perfect though and if you bowl enough you will undoubtedly run into a lane here or there that is having issues with its pin setter. That is just the nature of that beast and you will occasionally run into this at Winnetka Bowl. The management does their best to keep the lanes well maintained and clean though so chances are your day or night out bowling will be an enjoyable one. This is your classic bowling alley. They have a lot of lanes and usually have leagues bowling Monday through Thursday nights. They have a fairly well stocked pro shop and they have shoe rentals at the main counter (of course). As with most bowling alleys there is a room full of arcade games and pinball machines to help keep the kids occupied while you bowl. They also have a separate room with quite a few pool tables that hosts pool leagues at times but when not hosting a pool league the tables can be rented by the hour and this is a nice alternative to coin operated pool tables. They also have two other mainstays of just about all bowling alleys. The first is the bar. It is your standard bowling alley bar which is to say it is good for beer and your standard array of mixed drinks. I haven't been there on a Friday or Saturday night in awhile but they used to have drink girls going up and down the lanes taking drink offers on the weekend and hopefully they still do. The second mainstay is the standard bowling alley snack bar. Greasy but good burgers, chicken sandwiches and large plates of French fries hit the spot here. The cooked food is actually a cut above your usual bowling alley snack bar food and several large plates of fries and some beers make the evening out bowling with friends just that much better. This is a lively place and is a good spot to have a fun night out with friends when you feel like doing something that isn't the...
Read moreI’ve been to many bowling alleys throughout the LA/OC region, and I can confidently say that the best alley in SoCal has to be Winnetka Bowl. I love this place so much that I drive all the way from Santa Monica three times a week just to bowl here. The prices are great, with plenty of specials to choose from the leagues are very competitive. The lanes are extremely well taken care of, the approaches aren’t sticky, the oil patterns are consistent, and overall, everything is maintained the best. It’s an ideal place for bowlers who take the game seriously, but they also do a great job accommodating families, kids, and casual outings. They have good rental equipment and plenty of options for kids, like bumpers and ball ramps, so everyone can have fun. I also really appreciate the staff here, theyre the best. Bevin, Kayla, Bryan, Justin, Sabrina, Mia, Caleb, Mo, Colby, and Trac (just to name a few) are always friendly, professional, and genuinely make the experience better every time. Solid people who i just like being around...Theyre also really good bowlers, which sometimes feels like free lessons for someone trying to get better =)
The crowd is great too, it’s a good mix of serious bowlers, league players, and people just having fun. If you’re a bowler in SoCal, you owe it to yourself to check this place out.
PS - Rusty and Karl at the shop are great too. They take care of you with very reasonalbe and great customer service
All to say, winnekta bowl is easily one of my favorite places in...
Read moreSeems run down and mismanaged after having my business turned down. To go bowling weekly, like I've done for 30 years across the country, this place would require nearly $300 in monthly reservation fees. What a cash grab, it's insane. We called in advance and asked for the least busy time to arrive to avoid their 400% up charge for reservations, and when we arrived at the time the clerk told us, we were informed it was still an hour wait. What is maddening is I counted at least 9 lanes turned off and with nobody on them. So either half their lanes are broken, or you gotta 'know someone'. Shame, I thought this was going to be a nice bowling alley, but you either have to sacrifice hours of your life staring at the ceiling to get a working lane, or fork over half a paycheck just to go bowling a few times a month. We called in advance specifically to avoid lines and go during non busy hours, only to be mislead. Again, 30 years of bowling across the country and this may be the worst experience yet. An entire night down of planning and driving there just to have to leave after arriving. Is there any good bowling alleys in the...
