From the moment you step through the doors of Brough Brothers Distillery, you know you're in for something special. Nestled in the heart of Louisville’s historic West End, this isn't just a distillery — it's a story, a celebration, and a bold new chapter in bourbon history. The vibes are immaculate. Warm, inviting, and buzzing with pride, the space blends modern charm with deep-rooted cultural heritage. It’s clear that this is more than a business — it’s a mission, brought to life by the first Black-owned distillery in Kentucky. The energy here is contagious, fueled by passion, authenticity, and a genuine love for the craft.
Our tour guide (one of the brothers themselves!) was knowledgeable, personable, and made us feel like part of the family. The experience was intimate and engaging — none of that cookie-cutter, corporate feel. We got to see the full process up close, from grain to glass, and learned not just how the bourbon is made, but why it matters.
And the tasting? Pure magic. Brough Brothers Bourbon hits the palate with smooth, warm notes of caramel, vanilla, and a subtle hint of spice that lingers just long enough to make you want another sip. It’s flavorful yet approachable, with a complexity that reflects the care put into every batch. You can taste the personality — bold, refined, and unapologetically unique. Whether you're a bourbon aficionado or just curious, this tour offers something rare: authenticity. You leave with more than just a taste — you leave with a deeper appreciation for what bourbon can be when it’s made with purpose. Brough Brothers isn’t just making bourbon — they’re making history. And it tastes phenomenal. Highly, highly...
Read moreOur visit with Brough Brothers was fantastic. I say with and not "at" because it was an incredibly friendly and personal experience. We've been to many area distilleries and I think this is the only time we got to meet and talk with the master distiller. He walked us through not only the general process of making each spirit, but also his path to distilling and reasons behind choices he makes like barrel size, specific botanicals in the gin, the type of still, etc. We asked many questions which he was more than happy to answer and expound on.
In the tasting room, we were able to try some of each spirit neat and then mixed as a cocktail; great examples of other ways to enjoy their products.
The operation is small but terrific and high quality. It was a fun experience and we were sure to leave with a bottle for later (signed no less). While it's not right on whiskey row, it's well worth the short drive. Make sure you add Brough Brothers to your itinerary if your touring the area, and simply find a time to stop by if...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting the distillery. I was beyond pleased with the tour. The distillery is small and intimate. The setting made it wonderful to really learn about the process and get up close and personal with the process. The fact that it is a family run establishment is wonderful also. The bourbon is good. I have had my fair share of bourbon and I appreciate this bottle greatly. Bourbon is something that I think should be shared with everyone. I put it to my personal test when I got home and had more straight and then with various mixers just to see how it holds up in mixed drinks and was pleasantly surprised when it held up in the drinks. I was able to appreciate the bourbon flavor but it wasn’t so rich that there was no way to mix with a juice or cola. My favorite is ginger beer and bourbon and it held its own with the ginger beer! I plan to take friends and family to the distillery soon so that they can enjoy the experience...
