Yesterday I was standing back, while my wife was shooting in our lane, and interevened on an older fellow looking down the barrel of his pistol. I cared about his safety, and he was also pointing it in my direction! He seemed to appreciate my concern for his safety, but i also let the folks who work there know what was going on. They blew me off, saying they knew him and that he "works on guns." I let them know that he should know better, and that I don't appreciate having a firearm pointed in my direction. The owner, can't remember his name, told me that he himself does the same thing, trying to justify the unsafe behavior. One of the most basic rules of firearm safety is to keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction. I'm giving this place two stars, because I have had good service here in the past. I've spent money here over the years, both on range fees and firearms. The service you receive really depends on who you get behind the counter. My experience with the younger kid working behind the counter (appeared to be 12-15 years old, maybe somebody who works there's son?) is on par with the other negative google reviews. There was also another guy there that appeared to be the kid's father, and he has given me mixed signals. My best customer service in the past has been from a guy I think is the owner's son (name was Bradley? I haven't seen him there the last few times I've been there), an older heavyset gentleman who appeared to do a lot of the handiwork (changing out parts like slide release, sights, grips, etc), and a lady who I think is the owner's wife. These three have great customer service skills and a good technical knowledge of firearms. This most recent experience will keep me from shooting in the indoor range here. Their prices are on par with most places, and they have a pretty...
Read moreI've been going to Lone Star for 9 years. I've bought guns, ammo, and accessories from them, and have shot in every lane they have.
Today, I brought two first-time shooters to practice with a Ruger LC9s. We bought a box of Ammo Inc. factory reloads from the range for a whopping $28. I'd never seen this brand before, but they insisted it was good quality, so I trusted them.
The 27th round was a squib, and the bullet lodged in the barrel.
I refused to continue using the Ammo Inc. and asked if they were willing to refund the box. They gave me the "we're a small business, can't afford to give refunds on ammo sales". I was advised to get a replacement box from Ammo Inc., which I obviously didn't want.
Before I left, the owner made it a point to tell me that "we've never had an issue with this ammo, besides today", as if it were my fault they sold me a squib.
Lone Star is willing to sell you ammo that could kill you and other shooters, and they're willing to price gouge all the while. They seem to feel this is okay because everyone has to sign an arbitrary liability waiver. I hope they spend our last $60 wisely, like maybe on a...
