I have no joy in writing reviews like this, in fact, I rarely ever do. But I feel like I’m obligated to warn people who are considering golfing here right now. Don’t. Don’t play golf here.
The greens, fairways, and tee boxes are, quite frankly, in utterly embarrassing condition. It’s almost like they stopped looking after them altogether. The alternative being the grounds crew bungled the aeration process and killed the greens in the process because there’s water in the greens and they’re soft/responsive where the grass is green, yet there’s massive dead patches of cracked hard pan on every single green except it was either #16 or #17.
After the first hole I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing and prayed it would be better, but it only got worse. Being forced to play preferred lies all over the golf course in the first week of July is absurd.
Even the small things are being missed. Like the tattered flags being used that look years old or these god awful plastic cup inserts they use. If you drain putt, your ball doesn’t even fall to the bottom of the cup. Making a putt with the pin pulled sounds like you’re at a mini golf course when it hits that thin plastic.
Incredibly disappointing. All of it. Won’t ever make the decision to choose this place over others in the area again. Hope they find a way to get it turned around next year, but this place is unplayable right now especially for the rates that are...
Read moreMy daughter got married at Shuksan on July 19th, and I must sing the praises of the Event Organizer, Darcie, and her staff. Not only did they do exactly what they promised, but they went over and above in service and attention to detail. This was a big event, 90+ guests, ceremony, reception and buffet dinner. We were on the premises from 2 to 9:30pm and also the evening before. Before the event we had lots of questions and special arrangements for local beer and wine, food, decorations, etc, and Darcie and staff fielded all the answers and came through with all the planning details.
As the day started, I as mother of the bride, and the bride did not have to attend to miniscule details, Darcie and staff did it all. Food was prepared and buffet trays were refreshed as they became empty. They even attended to the memories, getting the bridal party a bottle of champagne and sending them out in a golf cart away from the crowd, to have a few moments before returning to the reception.
They adjusted quickly from outdoor ceremony to indoor, and made things happen on time. Even the one little mix-up with a couple of special gift forks for the Bride and Groom was quickly resolved. They were found, clean and in a safe place for their return.
Needless to say, I couldn't be happier, and gave them all an additional tip for their professional efforts. Thank you...
Read moreA hidden gem about a 10-15 minute drive from the Bellingham exit off I5. A steal @ $37 for 18 holes including ridding golf cart (no GPS). Turned out to be a good decision as there is quite a bit of change in elevation, even though the course is pretty flat from the second shot in (except for 3-4 approaches to elevated greens). No way I could have enjoyed my round as much if I carried (I'm in decent shape) and no way would I have been able to get in consecutive rounds of 86 (lost 2 balls) and 79 in the same day. Drainage wasn't a big issue on the fairways except for the 3rd shot on the 2nd to last Par 5 (play in mid April spring weather), although I can see why some complain about plugged balls... especially off the elevated tees and if they have the tendency to sky tee shots. Not the longest of course from the blues, but decent (quite short off the whites... not sure about the reds). The greens have average speed and relatively flat. Watch out for the slope running towards the fairways on the elevated greens (especially on Index 1 Par 5). All in all a gorgeous course in great winter conditions. We will most...
