I have been looking for a nice little hobby/craft store in this area that sold fabric and other basic craft items. But I was taken aback when I saw there was a Ben Franklin's in Macon.
You see, growing up in Iowa, there was a Ben Franklin Store in most of the "bigger" towns, and it was like the women's version of a hardware store. They always had just what you needed.
When I first arrived, I was a little disappointed. It kind of reminded me of a thrift store. The building is old and in rough shape, and there were odds and ends everywhere. The older lady seemed a little gruff and out of sorts, but I decided to wander around a bit, and I am sure glad I did!
I found things that I had been looking for like big metal cookie cutters and a kitchen timer... LOL.
But the BIG surprise came when I found the fabric room! Oh, my!!! It is huge! I could have spent all day in there. But it was almost closing time on a Sunday, and my husband and I had spent the day attending the funeral of a dear friend's father. So, I took a settled on just three fabrics and the perfect cookie cutters and vowed to return when I could spend more time.

Read moreIt's always fun to spend time in Ben Franklin with my family. I enjoy shopping with my kids and allowing them to see some nostalgia that they would never ever see otherwise. The staff is very friendly and helpful and always answers my questions if I am wondering what the next new trend in crafts are. I have friends who shop regularly in Ben Franklin who have tattoo sleeves and have never felt singled out or have been rude to. All in all, beautiful decor, fun gifting, and gag gifts as well. Simply Southern is also a fave of mine and they have a large selection. But shop early,...

I keep a 5 dollar bill in my hat because I don't have pockets. It was 2.17. I asked if I could have it for 2 dollars even so I don't have to carry the change. I just was going to walk it over and donate it to the library. The girl at the desk looked scared and asked her manager/owner, and she said no. I explained why and said it was only 17 cents, and it's a good deed donation. She said "Yeah, that's 17 cents out of MY pocket, LADY!" I was shocked at her tone and voice. Won't be back. Doesn't even...
