We stayed here for one night while making our way across northern Florida. Follow the driving directions provided by the campground when you make your reservation: our Garmin GPS would have taken us past the campground, and Google Maps has no knowledge of the road that leads to the resort or the roads within the resort. When you arrive at the entrance to the resort, the closed exit gate will be on your right: turn left and take the one-way paved road up to the pro shop, where the signs will direct you to turn right to reach the resort sites (the campground). You will pass some pickleball courts next to a pavilion, then reach a stop sign where you will be directed to look to the right for any golfers hitting off the tee before you cross over the fairway and enter the campground. Check in at the yellow two-story office building - which has an ATM and laundry facilities in the back - and someone will escort you to your site.
The sites are a mix of pull-throughs and back-ins. Most sites have concrete pads with patios, but some have gravel pads. All the sites had picnic tables, fire rings, and grass yards. A few sites have trees (but most of the trees are too short to provide much shade), but most have a clear view of the sky. Our site (84) was a pull-through with enough room to park both our 37-foot fifth wheel and 21-foot truck with several feet to spare. The hookups were located in a standard location, and the site was level. The spacing between sites is wider than that of most private park (at least 25 feet between pads). The campground roads in the vicinity of the office and the main road within the campground are paved; the rest are gravel.
There are two fenced-in dog parks at the back of the campground: one large one and one huge one (well over a half acre), both with lush grass surfaces. We used the smaller one, and while nice the chain latch for the gate still allows the gate to open enough for most dogs to slip through, and it is not lit at all at night. There are also open areas near the office for walking dogs. The rules printed on the campground map say “no dog kennels on site”, but I saw a few spots with temporary dog enclosures.
It looks like they have scheduled events most days, like group walks, pickleball pickup games, and of course golf-related activities. They were finishing up a wine tasting event when we arrived. It didn’t look like there was anything geared towards children: there is no playground. There is a swimming pool, but it’s next to the pro shop, so it’s a long walk from the campground. Seemed like a lot of the residents either rented golf carts or had their own.
In terms of cell service, the best speed I got on my Verizon Jetpack with MIMO antenna was 60 Mbps down and 13 up, so we had no trouble streaming video during the evening. But the next morning (Sunday), my hotspot couldn’t pull down any data, likely losing out to heavy usage from nearby Verizon phone users. The one speed test I ran on my 5G AT&T smartphone showed 129 Mbps down and 5 up. I tried out the campground WiFi the afternoon we arrived and saw 16 Mbps down and 3 up (note: we did have a repeater right next to us).
We would stay here again for an...
Read moreI reserved 4 nights here to get an idea if this resort would be a good alternative to where we are staying this winter. We lived on a golf course for a couple of years in Florida, but we do not golf - we just like the idea golf courses keep their grounds clean and neat. Anyway, booking was easy and the price was acceptable for the length of stay. Arriving in a class A (we have a 43ft class A pulling an Expedition) for the first time is requires you take your time turning the relatively narrow residential roads, and through the golf resort. Not a big deal, but it is tight-ish. Check-in was easy and the resort sent texts to keep track of our arrival which I appreciated. The site we were assigned was level and concrete, and the pedestal was intact. Water pressure was just under 50 psi and the electric, as measured by our equipment, was always over 120v - no power outages while we were there. What we didn't like was the fact the roads around the sites are gravel, and the dust is enough to leave a light layer all over everything. The weather was PERFECT while visiting, and we had the windows open to take advantage of the low humidity and give the ACs a break. Unfortunately, the gravel dust is all over the inside as well. Most resorts restrict, or try to restrict RVs to newer models. Not here. We normally stay at resorts for longer stays, so I guess this is my misunderstanding assuming this would apply here. I would consider this a nice campground, not a resort. For the most part, everyone respects campground etiquette, but our neighbor was constantly moving through the grounds with his unmuffled pick up. And of course, nice and early as well. Oh well, every campground has one of these guys. A bright spot was the dog park which was simply outstanding - lots of fenced room and provided waste bags. And as a testament to the guests, we did not see any dog waste left behind. We really appreciated being able to let our dog run off leash. Even though the resort is near downtown Madison, if you don't golf, there's not much to do. My wife and I explored the area such as Madison, Monticello and Quitman. All are wonderful examples of old Florida panhandle towns. We did not use any of the amenities or happy hour. So, would we go back? As native Floridians and for how we travel and set up for winter as full-timers, probably not. I can see why it would be attractive to...
