My review is on the building, not my adventure: Amenities include AC (1st floor), fridge, microwave, toaster oven, lots of countertop space, and even wifi. They have a nice big living room with 2 couches around 5 large chairs to relax in.
Knocked on the door and call the number on the building when you arrive. You will park in the alleyway under a carport next to the kicthen entrance, not on the main street after, but only after you meet the owners.
Your team is left alone. The owners do not stay overnight with you as some other places do. This was a huge plus for us.
You are not "locked in" against your will. There are 2 entries and have locks that you are allowed to secure. Owners provide instructions on how to secure the building.
The building itself is in decent condition but be wary that the floor will give you a funhouse effect.
Areas to explore include basement (accessible from outside), 1st floor, 2nd floor, and attic.
Wear a mask in the attic if your plan to stay there for a prolong period of time as it's very musty.
The neighborhood was peaceful and quiet at night, but be mindful of the main road through town during the day as there can be some traffic.
The Café across the street is highly recommended, and you can bring your leftovers back to the house.
Our investigation was very very quiet with only 1 personal experience.
Overall 5 stars: The owners were very kind and friendly, they left us alone, the entire stay was 20 hours, the space for setting up gear was massive, AC on the whole first floor, and the town was...
Read moreMalvern Manor was an interesting place to visit and the host Josh was humorous and easy to talk to. That being said I don't recommend being in large groups if you go here as it will definitely hinder any investigating you decide to do during an overnight stay. If I had to recommend a party size I'd say no more than 2-4 people, we brought 9.
I personally experienced no activity here for the many hours we had stayed 4pm-8am. I don't really think the place is haunted, but it being a historical building is a good enough reason to visit.
You will definitely notice if you stay at Malvern Manor that there is a LOT of noise interference between the cars passing by as well as the Cafe located next door. It is an older building so sounds carry loudly throughout the building, be skeptical when you think you hear or see something for this reason.
My only real complaint outside of not really experiencing anything, which is to be expected, is that items HAVE been moved around the building. If you watch videos on Malvern Manor via youtube or elsewhere that they are posted some non major items have been relocated throughout the building. This is probably due to the influx of gifts and objects brought to Malvern for the supposed spirits of the dead, but it was still disappointing to see new or moved objects not originally in rooms seen before through another persons experience.
Overall 4/5 stars good slice of history, has good atmosphere being a very dark cold old building. Bring a coat in the...
Read moreWe made the trip to Malvern after an overnight at Villisca! What a way to cap off our trip, though! From the first view, it definitely is a must see if you are into the paranormal as a believer, want to try to disprove, or you just are curious! Josh was so amazing! He is so respectful of his housemates and encourages visitors to interact with them. After a very thorough and fun tour, we were able to look a little on our own. The most interesting piece of evidence was one that I might want to try to disprove except I was right there when it all happened. My friend and I each took pictures in the same spot. Mine show a light spot, which we made sure to check out in depth to find out where it was coming from - we couldn't find any way to disprove it. Now on to my friend's pictures... in that same spot where my pictures showed a light spot, there was a full face, and to go even further, we could see a body too. So incredibly exciting! Definitely will...
