Unfortunately, we experienced a house fire. It was a catastrophic fire -- leaving the home without a roof, windows, etc. No one was physically injured during the fire, and both of our dogs escaped through their doggie door. One dog hung around and a neighbor was able to put her in her yard while the fire Dept extinguished the flames. However, our other dog wandered off and apparently found his way to an apartment complex 1/2 of a mile away. The leasing office had Cobb Animal Control retrieve him. Long story shortened, the next day we were delighted to find him being held at animal control. He was a formerly rescued Beagle, his microchip had apparently fallen out, and I didn't have any proof (adoption records, pictures) that he belonged to us. Fortunately, he wore a very unique collar that I was able to describe well enough to satisfy the person helping me. *Note: Email yourself photos of your pets every 6 months as you never know when you might need them! I paid a fee of roughly $50 and brought him "home" --a hotel suite until we could find a rental while our home was being rebuilt. The $50 fee to claim him was something I hadn't expected, but they also had him checked over by a vet and he was given all of his annual shots -- that in itself was less than I usually pay my vet. Initially, I found the employee who helped me to be a bit rude as I only told her I'd lost my dog and came to see if he had been brought in. She wanted to know why I wasn't responsible enough to keep him from getting lost. She changed her tune when I explained the situation with the fire. Fast Forward 7 years:. While both of those dogs have passed (17 & 18 yrs old), I have adopted another stray. Because I was leaving his doggie door open whenever I left my home, I didn't realize that sometimes he would go outside at night and bark. A couple of months later I experienced a stroke, and although a friend came to check in on my dog while I was in the hospital, he apparently barked quite a bit over the 4 days that I was admitted. I had a relatively new neighbor report the barking to Animal Control, who dispatched Officer Blount. At that time, my neighbor and I did not have a pleasant relationship (we do now). Officer Blount visited me on two occasions, and I found him to be very respectful, as well as helpful in advising me on cruelty-free ways to curb my newer dog's barking. I have only had pleasant experiences with Cobb's Animal Control. I volunteer at a non-profit shelter, and when we have room, we often bring back cats from AC to help them free up more space. The cats come in in good health and have obviously been taken care of as well as any similar "boarding" situation would be. Government Shelters do not have the fortune of having volunteers to foster cats and dogs in their homes like many non-profits/private shelters. When they reach capacity cannot place the overflow with rescue groups, they have little option but to euthanize. It's sad, but it's as simple as that. I truly believe that rescued pets make the best companions. It's as if they know you've saved their lives. Another shout-out to Officer Blount for representing CCAC as the professional organization it prides itself on being.
EDIT: Oh, my goodness! My apologies for all of the typos and incorrect grammar! My comment is so long, and I hope to one day have an opportunity to go back to correct those errors. Until then,...

My little dog is now prohibited from his delight: Going for a ride. This was his treat (weather permitting) until a busybody reported Oh GASP a dog-in-car this past tuesday. A temperate day in the high sixties!! I needed a jacket to sit with my dog on starbucks patio, and finally put him back in the car, revisiting him for a water/potty break while i was on wifi for a few hours job hunt.
So Cobb Animal Control Officer issues a Warning for Animal Cruelty, so that if my dog is found in the car again I go to jail for 2 months. I was bullied off the property, not even allowed to take my dog back to the patio to finish the interrupted wifi task.
My dog shouldn't be left behind when he considers our car his second home. I would never endanger him if weather did not permit his company. I rescued him nearly five years ago.
I am a teacher, suffering the county budget cutbacks. Arrest for Animal Cruelty will further hamper my job hunt, could even ruin a career.
TOO MANY ON THE PAYROLL at the Cobb Animal Control if this is the nonsense they spend time & our tax dollars bullying responsible pet owners
$$$$$$$$$$$ O.C.G.A. Sec. 10-121.6. Animals in motor vehicles.$$$$$$$$ Any person shall be in violation of this chapter who: (b) Leaves an animal in a parked vehicle when temperatures inside the vehicle may adversely affect the animal's health and welfare. When the conditions inside a parked vehicle constitute an imminent threat to the animalâs health or safety, any animal left in a parked vehicle may be removed by CCAC, any law enforcement agency, or fire agency from that vehicle. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ how's Cobb spending our tax dollars $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
NOTE: 68 degrees, parked in shade. windows vented. waterbowl handy in car, along with my groceries... It was no warmer in my car tuesday than our house will be in August. IF my precious doggie was endangered, then by law ref. above, the officer should have taken him in that day-- rather than shooing us home.
TOO MANY on THIS COBB COUNTY DEPT PAYROLL... take their salaries and divert it to the classroom for our schoolchildren, and put me back to work.
Follow-up 4/26, on behalf of my dog's right to accompany me=====
Mgr. Billy @ CCAC just as unreasonable, citing having pulled dead dogs from cars himself, and being also an unemployed teacher, he states "this is just a warning not to do it again, as with any misbehaving school kid."
Sorry, Manager Billy, I did not endanger my pet & didn't need a warning. I must preserve dog's pleasure of accompanying me in his mobile home (my car), weather permitting. I intend to have the rest of the dog's lifespan, ~ 7 more yrs, be just as companionable. So now I've talked to the county, suggested a RiF of ccac officers, and verified that my dog may in fact continue to accompany me weather permitting. I reported the original officer as Bullying Behavior for threats of this record becoming foundational to future arrest. I learned from the Lt. over CCAC this was an incident, not a warning-on-record, no law was broken and no pet endangerment. I learned today the OFFICER FLAT OUT LIED as to when the call came in and his response time. Bully to you too Officer. I hope there is a RiF, a Reduction in Force of Animal control, diverting funds to schools, that sends you home...
Read moreIâve adopted two Animals with a two week period. I was told both dogs received the rabies shot prior to adoption. Which was a lie. I was told the male dog I adopted was neutered. That was a lie also. Truthfully, there system is unorganized and I did bring this up to the Director Shana. For this to be a county facility that houses mainly stray animals how is neutered and rabies status overlooked! Her response is it was a oversight.
WARNING: When your interested in an animal that isnât ready for adoption the front desk clerk provides you with a Adoption Listing Receipt which only has the Animals ID, what number you are on the adoption list, the date of the adoption and the time the adoption starts. It does NOT DISCLOSE the type of animal you are adopting. You should be on more than one list for an animal to increase your chances of adoption. Since the shelter isnât organized enough to include a description of the animal on said list you will have to write it manually on the paper so your not confused on which animal is which. The Director claims to modify this Receipt to include information about the animal other than just a animal ID.
There is a female Manager heavy set with blond shoulder length hair to ratchet for me to remember her name who is an IDIOT. She is loud, rude and disrespectful. Her only job is to terrorize and lie and block you from trying to adopt your animal.
Last Tuesday, I was number 1 on the adoption listing receipt to adopt a kitten. In my own error I handed her the wrong adoption listing receipt remember all the sheet has is a Animal ID so is easy to confuse which animal is which. When I figured out my mistake I tried to give her the correct adoption listing receipt and she didnât take it. She lied and said I didnât have it and allowed someone else to adopt the animal. Needless to say she was reported to the Director and The Director of Health and Public Safety. When I mentioned to the Director how loud and rude she was, the Director stated â oh, yes she usually talks loudâ. My response well she should not be permitted to communicate with the public since she was not groomed to effectively communicate.
The Directors resolve was that she would be locating me another kitten to adopt and that she would do the adoption herself. Why not train and organize your staff to avoid these types of dysfunctional issues.
The animals are helpless is not there fault the staff and Management need training. Proceed with caution and donât trust a word from them. When you adopt take your animal to the vet immediately to check to see whether they are neutered. Know that you may be adopting an animal that doesnât have the...
